Customer Review Summary
Sunday roasts draw the most praise, with reviewers singling out a great selection of vegetables, red cabbage, and a bed of greens and leeks, and one calling it among the best roasts in the area. Close behind are the pub classics: a steak and ale pie with mash, greens and gravy, fish and chips described as a lot better than other local pubs, plus Korean chicken bites, buffalo wings and a smash burger. Sticky toffee pudding and baileys cheesecake are the desserts named. Staff are repeatedly called friendly and helpful, and the refurbishment, the roaring fire, the courtyard and the dog friendly welcome come up several times. Reviewers also mention the half price food on Mondays and the Monday quiz. Complaints are small. One group found the heating was down, leaving the open fire as the only source of warmth, and another reviewer wanted more flavour in the schnitzel breadcrumb. One diner recalls the host bringing extra gravy to the table.

“🚇 Eltham 🍺 £6.60 London Pilsner The Eltham GPO pub is located just off the high street in Eltham, southeast London. The nearest station is Eltham. The building was constructed in 1912 as Eltham’s General Post Office. A substantial extension was completed in 1935. This addition included the royal cypher of King George V, which remains above the main entrance today. The building reopened as a public house in February 2014, having originally been developed by Antic Pubs. Today, it is operated by Portobello Brewing. This is a good-sized, single-bar pub, predominantly traditional in style with a few contemporary touches. The servery is located on the right, with the bar wrapping around it in three distinct sections. To one side of the pub is an enclosed beer garden with bench seating, while there are also plenty of benches at the front. The decor features exposed brickwork, brightly coloured walls, herringbone and flagstone flooring, a variety of seating, and a striking central fireplace. Throughout the pub, postal-themed memorabilia and historic photographs celebrate the building’s heritage. The beer selection offers a line-up of familiar favourites, alongside Portobello’s own brews and a range of cask ales. I opted for a London Pilsner, my pint hit the spot, price point was about average. The food menu consists of small plates and traditional pub classics. Fish and chips costs £17.50, roasts are available on Sundays. We arrived just after 2pm on a mild Saturday afternoon in April. The pub was fairly busy throughout, with a mix of customers from all walks of life. The atmosphere was lively, with a nice buzz about the place, and the service was welcoming and friendly. This is a very popular pub in Eltham, appealing to a broad cross-section of locals. The beer selection was excellent, the surroundings were comfortable, the service was first-rate, and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. All in all, it was a relaxed and enjoyable visit, making this a top spot to enjoy a pint. 📅 11th April 2026”

“Eltham GPO is a fantastic place with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The staff are very friendly, and it is also very dog friendly, which makes it even more enjoyable. They serve one of the best Sunday roasts in the area, and there is a good selection of drinks to go with it. The interiors are stylish and comfortable, making it a place where you want to spend time. It is also a great option for birthdays or larger group gatherings.”

“Very lovely experience coming here, whilst we've been before, we haven't been since they've refurbished the place, it looks gorgeous inside and out. The staff are polite and helpful, the toilets are clean and well maintained, their seating is catered to everyone either wanted to sit inside, out the front or in the courtyard. Their food and drinks were delicious. I would highly recommend the steak and ale pie, which comes with mash, greens and gravy. One person in particular Diana (I hope I've spelt this right) a credit to the team, she was so helpful, and attentive to the moment we walked in to the moment we left. Despite it being a hot day as well, she welcomed us with a warm smile and good vibes throughout. So thank you 😊”
