About The Hightown Hotel
The Hightown Hotel is a pub, bar and gastropub on Lower Alt Rd in Liverpool, next to Hightown train station. The pub operates under new management following a refurbishment, and the menu runs from a Grande Breakfast with unlimited tea or coffee to a marinated chicken burger served on a bun, with gluten free options available including at breakfast. Live music features from a singer. The entrance is step-free and wheelchair accessible, making it workable for visitors with mobility needs, and dogs are welcome alongside guests at the table. Outdoor seating extends the room for anyone wanting to eat outside. It opens daily, and reservations are recommended. Bar service is sometimes handled by a small number of staff.

Customer Review Summary
Breakfast draws repeated praise, with the Grande Breakfast singled out for its value and diners highlighting the gluten free options and general selection. Close behind, live music nights and dishes like the steak pie and a well-kept Guinness earn strong mentions, and several parties note friendly, attentive young staff and good value pricing since the refurbishment and change of management. Against this sits a recurring complaint about inconsistent service, some describe slow, inattentive bar staff and a manager who let one person struggle alone at the bar, while others report a long delay on a meal with no apology once served. One diner was highly critical of the £14.95 chicken burger, calling the bun cheap and the chicken undercooked in flavor despite menu claims. A separate reviewer describes a manager, identified by name in that review but referred to here as a manager, refusing to remove a warm bottle of wine from the bill despite the complaint. Several nonetheless say they'd return, citing location and improved decor.

“We went as a party of 13 yesterday, we were really looked after by the two young ladies who served us, so polite and helpful. The food was gorgeous and prices for food and drinks such good value compared to previous to the new management. I cant wait to go back again!”

“I've been here twice since the refurbishment and it was the same story. Looks great, however both times, the service was very poor. Lots of staff running around but appeared to be doing very little and left one poor person to manage the bar. The manager appeared and saw how much they were struggling but did nothing to help, other than serve one person, who they seemed to know so they didnt have to queue up. Really poor and I felt sorry for the person having to work the bar by themselves. Unlikely I'll be going back.”

“We went for a walk along Crosby front and ended up at high town. Popped in for a pint and ended having food. There was a live singer on. The staff were incredible. A bunch of young girls who couldn't have been more attentive. Friendly and couldn't do enough for us. They were just so genuine. I had the steak pie which was top notch. The Guiness was perfect too. Highly recommend. Your staff are a credit to you.”

“Visited today for breakfast with my daughter and granddaughter. Excellent selection. We all enjoyed our food and the decor. The service from the staff was excellent. I highly recommend the breakfast. Definitely going to try more of the menu.”
