About Boston Pool Loft

Boston Pool Loft is a bar and pool hall in Liverpool, a couple of floors up on Wood St and overlooking Concert Square. The large open-plan space is styled on a Boston and New York pool hall, with a separate pool area and bar area and music playing throughout. Games include UK and American pool, two snooker tables, shuffleboard, darts, table tennis and arcade machines. Tables are hired by the hour with no membership needed. Players time their own hour and pay if they go over. Bar staff hold a card, keys or ID as a deposit for equipment such as pool cues, darts and shuffleboard pucks. Beer is on tap, and a happy hour runs at the bar. Evenings can mean a wait for a table. The foot pool area can be pre-booked as a private space with a drinks package.

Customer Review Summary

Pool by the hour is the main draw, with reviewers praising the mix of British and American tables, two snooker tables, and extras like shuffleboard, foot pool, darts and arcade games. Close behind is the beer, with several singling out the on tap selection and happy hour. Staff are called friendly and lovely, and some enjoyed the music, though one notes it is usually loud. Equipment condition is the recurring complaint. Reviewers describe a bent cue, a run down table, a wonky table in the foot pool room, a metal part that kept popping up, and a darts board and darts that had seen better days. Busy evenings can mean waiting for a table, and one reviewer was told to time their own session. One reviewer reports that a staff member accused a friend of being too drunk to play and describes it as homophobic. Games with equipment require leaving a card or keys as a deposit, and one reviewer says a late fee for returned darts ended in a dispute over their ID.

“Great selection of tables and good choice of drinks. Ideal for a day/night out with friends. No complaints!”

“My god, I have NEVER experienced homophobia until tonight… until one of your staff, a gent who was bald, accused a friend of mine of being too ‘drunk’ (who was evidently not drunk when we talked to this man as they initially couldn't point out who it was) to play pool after ‘how he was walking into the place’ just because of how he walked in... which is just how my friend walks normally. We asked why and asked to explain specifically the reason when standing in front of him, answering to ‘just because!’ with a smirk on his face, as I think he'd realised he'd profiled someone and too embarrased to admit it. It was honestly shocking behaviour. If you read this, which I think you might, you honestly need to be ashamed of yourself. Do better. Disgusting dated behaviour.”

“**WARNING** We have been regular visitors to Boston Pool Loft for years. Yesterday, we hired a darts board for 1 hour, costing £13. The darts board, along with the darts themselves had seen better days & the price wasn't really justifiable. Upon returning our darts, we had to wait just over 10 minutes to give them back as there was a queue. The young boy behind the bar attempted to charge me £1.10 as a "late fee". I refused this, he snatched my ID back & walked away, eventually coming back after 3 minutes to return what legally belonged to me. Disgusting service & absolute daily robbery, will not be returning. Be VERY careful if you decide to hand over your belongings as a "deposit" for such items that realistically, belong in the bin.”

“I love coming here for a few games of pool or shuffleboard and a beer. Situated in the heart of the Ropewalks, which run parallel to the well-known Bold Street, Boston Pool Loft is easy to miss, as it's a couple of floors up overlooking Concert Square. The entrance is on Wood Street. It's a large Boston / New York style open plan space, with lots of character hinting at its original use. Come here to play pool, snooker, shuffleboard, table tennis, darts, foot pool and a few arcade games whilst having a drink. If you've never played shuffleboard before, give it a go, it's more fun than it sounds. Imagine the Olympic sport of curling on very long specifically designed wooden tables. The staff are friendly. Expect to have to leave a card or keys with the staff as a deposit if you want to play one of the games that involves the use of equipment, such a Pool, shuffleboard etc. Be nice, they work there but don't make the rules. The music is usually loud, so may not suit everyone depending on your age group or personal sensory preferences.”

“Me and my boyfriend love a game of pool. We paid for 1 hour of UK pool and managed to fit in 3 games (and half a game) within the hour and we paid around £12 (with a further £12 for a vodka coke and pint of beer). We loved it here, it was a great environment, they played great music too and staff were lovely. We will definitely be coming back again next time we visit Liverpool.”
