About The Spotted Cow

On High St in Littlehampton, The Spotted Cow is a pub and restaurant set in an old-world inn with flower baskets out front and a garden behind. A traditional bar sits on one side, with a larger restaurant area on the other and a conservatory sitting area besides. The kitchen runs to fish and chips, a Croque Madame, and crumble for dessert, alongside cask ale and cider from the bar. A quiz night runs on top of the regular food and drink service. The step-free entrance suits visitors with mobility needs, and dogs are welcome throughout. Outdoor seating in the beer garden extends the space in fine weather, and free Wi-Fi is available for those settled in. It opens Tuesday to Sunday, closed Mondays, and reservations are recommended. Roast dinners, including chicken with roast potatoes, vegetables, and cauliflower cheese, round out a menu of 20 dishes.

Customer Review Summary

Roasts and pub grub dominate the praise, with the sticky toffee pudding and a pie and mash both singled out for delivering on a traditional, cosy country pub feel, and hosts noted repeatedly for making the atmosphere. Several reviewers also mention the beer selection and a sunny beer garden with a conservatory sitting area as favorites for a quick pint or a longer meal. The building itself draws comment for its time worn furniture and lack of music, machines, or TVs, giving it an old-fashioned feel that some contrast with another visit where live music played. Complaints are limited but specific: one reviewer describes a Saturday booking where food took over an hour to arrive, with rock hard roast potatoes, flavourless vegetables, and only one small pot of cauliflower cheese shared between three roast dinners despite the pub being busy with pre-booked tables. Another notes a thin soft drink selection, just lemonade or cola with no juice, though a few alcohol free beers were available. Repeat visitors mention returning for the beer garden and the roasts despite these lapses.

“Not the best selection of soft drinks. Lemonade or cola. No apple or orange juice.. A few decent alcohol free beers.”
  • Matt Jolley
“First of all, a lovely pub. However on Sat 03 May the experience was somewhat underwhelming. Yes it was busy but as tables are booked in advance, I would have thought more servers would be available. We ordered and waited over an hour before the food arrived. I had the chicken which was ok but the roast spuds were rock hard, the vegetables laving flavour and the less said about the cauliflower cheese the better (three of us had roasts but one small pot of cauli between us). The music was great though.”

  • Janice Crawford
“Had a lovely meal here last Saturday. Food delicious and hot. Good service. Great deal buy one meal and get one half price too!! Prices still reasonable without offer. Would recommend and will be going back soon.”
  • Ian hill
“This is a fantastic pub situated in a lovely part of Angmering. It has a cosy, traditional bar area one side, and a large restaurant area on the other side. …”
