Quick info
About Charlie Purley
On Shripney Rd in Bognor Regis, Charlie Purley is a pub that serves a carvery daily, so a roast is on offer on any visit. Diners collect their own plate from the carvery counter, and staff tell guests when to go up. The carvery comes in a regular plate or a large upgrade, and the choices include beef and roast potatoes. The wider menu runs to burgers, scampi and steak, and orders for those are placed at the bar. A fireplace gives adults somewhere to settle with a pint, while a small children's play area inside lets younger guests move around. Drinks range from tea to cask ales.

Customer Review Summary
The carvery is the draw most reviewers return to, with diners describing beef so tender it melts in the mouth and hot, fresh roasters with plenty of variety. One reviewer found the regular plate big enough to leave two people full, and several call the value excellent. Close behind are the friendly, attentive staff, who kept smiles on during a busy Mother's Day, with one server timing the carvery so a group could eat together. Also mentioned are a generous breakfast and a steak cooked exactly as asked. One reviewer suggests booking ahead. The complaints are specific. One diner found the carvery dry and only warm, said the scampi was not rated, and was ignored at the bar before being given a refund. Another called the pub canteen like, with sticky tables and an online menu that would not add a child's meal.

“Thought we'd try it on the off chance and it didn't disappoint. The staff are so helpful and just lovely. They have got a wide selection of food to it. We went for the carvery and it was amazing. So tasty and well worth the money. We both went for the regular plate and it was big enough, left us both full up. You can upgrade to a large for an extra £2,but you wouldn't need to. We've come back for a 2nd night because the food and service is so good. Well worth a visit. Would recommend to book ahead. It does get busy because it is so good.”

“We had breakfast at Charlie Purley this morning and it was excellent. The food was delicious, fresh, and beautifully presented, with generous portions and great quality ingredients. A special mention goes to Amelia, who served us. She was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and attentive throughout our visit. Nothing was too much trouble, and she made us feel genuinely looked after with her warm and professional service. Overall, a fantastic breakfast experience. Great food, excellent service, and a lovely atmosphere. We’ll definitely be back and would highly recommend Charlie Purley to anyone looking for a great place to eat and Amelia to serve you if available!”

“Here's a FLYing review... the carvery had so many flies flying about the meat. It looked so dry The food was warm someone said. 3 had burgers and said they were alright. One had scampi and said they wouldn't rate it. I went to the bar to order something else as I wasn't going to eat the carvery but the woman looked at me and just went in the back. A young lad was just getting himself a drink and said he'd be with me in a bit and walked away. A woman then gave me a refund and asked why and did I want to order something else!!! Refund it was. Oh and when someone brought the burgers etc over she barged into me and didnt apologise. No we wouldn't recommend”
