About The George at Burpham
The George at Burpham is a gastropub on Main St in Burpham, near Arundel, set in an old village pub with candles on the tables, hops on display and an interior that mixes contemporary and country styling. The kitchen cooks slow-cooked belly of pork from Goodwood Farm, and a mushroom Wellington gives vegan diners a main course of their own. Desserts include syrup sponge with homemade custard. The bar serves beer and wines by the glass. Reservations are required, and dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
Starters draw the most specific praise, with the scotch egg and the scallops (one reviewer says with chorizo) called exceptional by diners who ordered them. Close behind are the mains and puddings: a Sunday roast with soft, fluffy Yorkshire pudding and tender meat, côte de boeuf with triple-cooked chips, slow-cooked belly of pork, cod and venison, and desserts such as syrup sponge with homemade custard, vanilla pannacotta and crumble. Reviewers also mention good wine pairings, the Bloody Marys and Hawkstone beer. Staff earn repeated mentions for a warm welcome and service that is friendly without being pushy, and several describe the interior as stylish, cozy and full of character. The one real criticism comes from a single party who found the pork chop a tad oily, the fries over salty and the presentation of the burger and chips lacking, though they still said they would return. One diner closes on the head chef personally explaining what the sausages contained.

“We had the most wonderful experience at The George at Burpham, from the moment we called to book our table with Charlotte. She was so warm and helpful, and that lovely welcome continued throughout our visit thanks to Charlotte and her fantastic team. The service was attentive, friendly and thoughtful without ever feeling rushed. Every dish was excellent: the côte de boeuf and triple-cooked chips were outstanding, the salad was delicious, and the mackerel pâté was a perfect start. Then came the divine syrup sponge with homemade custard — proper comfort-food heaven. The interior is beautiful, full of character and charm, with a wonderfully welcoming, family feel. It’s the kind of place where you immediately feel at home and want to linger a little longer. A huge thank you to Charlotte and all the staff for making our visit so special. We loved every moment and can’t wait to come back. Five stars across the board — food, service, atmosphere and welcome. Absolutely fabulous!”

“Our second visit and it was just as amazing as the first! We absolutely love the Sunday Roast at The George at Burpham. The Yorkshire pudding was soft and fluffy, gravy was flavourful and the meat was soft and tender. In addition to the food, the atmosphere is amazing, with very attentive and friendly staff. Looking forward to our next visit, keep up the good work! - Mushroom Wellington, pecan & chestnut stuffing (VG) (£21) - 12 hour, slow-cooked Goodwood Farm organic belly of pork, crackling, apple sauce (GFA) (£26)”

“Went here for my other half’s birthday and it was amazing. Food was superb (they make their own mayonnaise), service and staff were outstanding and the Bloody Marys were pretty good too. It a lovely pub in a great location of you fancy something a little different!!!”

“Just outstanding, Martin was a brilliant head chef, he gave me a run down on what the sausages contained. The food was cooked to perfection and the waiter was polite, I highly recommend.”
