About The Six Bells Chiddingly
The Six Bells Chiddingly is a pub in Lewes on The St, set in an old building with a traditional interior and pub memorabilia on display. Live music and bands play at the pub, which gives visitors a reason to come beyond a drink. The kitchen cooks home-made, freshly prepared pub food, with steak and kidney pie and chicken and mushroom pie on the menu. The pub takes no bookings, so guests simply turn up. The bar inside is small, and service can take a while when the pub is busy.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often praise the homemade pub food, naming a chicken and mushroom pie with huge chunks of chicken, a ham hock that falls off the bone, a steak and kidney pie and a seafood salad. Treacle sponge with custard gets a mention for puddings that taste traditional. Close behind is the setting, described as a quirky, very old building with a small bar like something out of a movie set, a roaring fire and a big beer garden. Friendly, polite staff, a good selection of drinks and draught beers, and live music also come up, and several call the prices reasonable and the portions hot and generous. The one recurring snag is the small inside bar. One reviewer found the place packed inside and out on a Saturday lunchtime and waited a while to be served, and was told beforehand that tables are not booked, a policy that reviewer suggested reconsidering. That same reviewer still called the service friendly and planned to return on a weekday.

“We recently attended The Six Bells for an car event and had a great time! The pub is exactly what you expect from a proper British country pub, quirky old building, friendly staff and a good drinks selection. We didn't eat, but all the food we saw looked and smelt delicious. The outside seating area is wonderful with plenty of tables and a relaxing vibe. 100% recommend.”

“Haven't eaten here yet, but the food that was continuously coming out looked very good. Good wholesome pub food. Such a busy pub, really great to see a pub busy with such a variety of people. The pub itself is very old and so quirky, worth a pint just to see inside. The bar itself is small and something out of a movie set. Old and full of character. The staff are friendly and always polite. Big beer garden too. Will go again for lunch very soon.”
