Customer Review Summary
Diners return most for the grilled meats, naming tender lamb chops, chicken shish, koftas and a mix kebab, and several describe the food as fresh and full of flavour. Lamb beyti, spicy chicken sheesh and siagara boregi also get named. Staff are repeatedly called warm and friendly. The main criticism is the family platter. One reviewer found it mostly rice with a few chunks of chicken and some seekh kebab pieces, plus a small salad, tiny sauce pots and no bread. A longtime regular says platter portions have shrunk over the years. Another reviewer felt the mix platter for four was plenty for a couple and three children. One reviewer also found the variety weaker than at similar Turkish restaurants. The garlic sauce draws particular praise, and one table asked for more of the sauces. Reviewers also single out the complimentary fresh bread and sauces that arrive before the mains, and one parent describes staff coming over to reassure her when her baby made a mess.

“Best Turkish restaurant hands down, the food is exceptional! Been going for years and never gets boring. We’ve been as a couple, a family and even a big group of friends- where they usually seat you upstairs. The meat is so tender and amazingly seasoned , the salad is always so fresh and the bread and dips are to die for. The staff are all so warm and welcoming! We recently had a baby and she has just started to eat and she makes such a mess but they’re so kind about it, they always come over if they see me cleaning up after her and assure me it isn’t a problem:’) Honestly couldn’t recommend a restaurant more!! 11/10”

“I don’t usually leave reviews, but this one genuinely deserves it—and not in a good way. Paid nearly £50 for what was supposedly a “family platter for 4,” and honestly, it barely looks like it could satisfy two adults, let alone a whole family. The tray was mostly bulked out with rice, with a pretty underwhelming scattering of grilled meats on top. A few chunks of chicken, some seekh kebab pieces, and that’s about it. For the price, you’d expect generous portions—not something that feels rationed. The sides didn’t help either. A small tray of basic salad and a handful of tiny sauce pots that feel more like fillers than anything substantial. No bread, no proper extras—just the bare minimum. To be fair, the food itself wasn’t terrible—flavour was decent enough—but that’s completely overshadowed by the portion size and value for money. When you’re charging this much, expectations are high, and this fell well short. Overall, really disappointing. Feels like style over substance. Definitely not worth £50, and I wouldn’t order again.”

“I’ve been to Fes Mangal several times now, and every single visit has been outstanding. The food is absolutely incredible, always fresh, full of flavour, and cooked perfectly. Their garlic sauce is genuinely to die for! What really sets this place apart is the hospitality. Every member of staff is so warm, welcoming, and helpful, and the service is consistently excellent. The waitress who served us was fantastic, friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience even better. I honestly wouldn’t go to any other Turkish restaurant in Leicester. Fes Mangal is by far the best in the city for me. Thank you to the whole team for another amazing meal. I always leave happy and looking forward to coming back!”

“We have been eating at Fes Magal for the longest time and it’s been consistently good. Never had any issues with the food or staff. This time round we had Osman taking our order. Osman was really funny and made us all laugh. Excellent customer service. The complimentary starters (fresh bread and sauces) are so yummy. For mains we had Siagara Boregi, Lamb Beyti with chips and salad, Spicy Chicken Sheesh and Chicken Beyti. Everything was freshly made to order, bursting with flavour and absolutely delicious. If you get the opportunity please do drop in as it’s not to be missed.”

“Central Leicester. Quick efficient service. Tasty food. Good choice. Certainly recommend this as a definite option for Turkish food. Just one thing. The restaurant should communicate cash only. Maybe signs on the table or before taking the order this should be mentioned. Had no issues with cash but just in case. Some people do not carry cash at all. And what if they don't have a card on them to take money out, Other than that detail, the food was good.”
