About The Grove Inn

The Grove Inn is a pub on Back Row in Leeds, open since 1832 and hosting live music alongside its bar. A folk night and other live sets take place in a small events room at the bottom of the building, which has a very small stage. The Victorian interior is split into several rooms of different sizes. Hand-pulled Yorkshire cask ales sit alongside keg beers, and the list is displayed on a chalk board next to the bar. Food runs to bar snacks and a locally made pasty, and darts is played in the pub. The pub opens daily, and Leeds Train Station is close by.

“Been here before and enjoyed our visits, but tonight was probably our last visit. After the first beer which was fine, I decided to go for the Long Moor Pale which I've had elsewhere many times and enjoyed. The beer was cloudy and tasted sour, so I returned it to the bar. The guy said he knew it wasn't right and he had complained to his supplier, but whilst he knew it was cloudy, HE thought it tasted OK and told me "it wont make you ill". After another couple of mouthfuls I knew it wasn't right and probably WOULD make me ill. I returned to the bar and said I couldn't drink it and asked for something else (Taylors Golden Best). He pulled the Golden Best and then charged me for replacing the bad beer. Question.....Why are they still selling a beer which they know isn't right and have complained to their supplier about? Because we were enjoying our night I did begrudgingly paid for a replacement pint which I know I really should have refused to pay for. We would have stayed longer and had more drinks but left early. We won't be back at the Grove Inn in a hurry!!”

“If you want to go back in time and see how pubs were far better years ago, then visit this pub! The rooms are amazing, well kept, glimpses into the past. I told the friendly landlord this, when he asked how I was doing, when he spotted me taking photos. Then there's the great selection of cask ales - delicious! I'll be introducing my mates to this pub on our next lads' day out! Faultless!”

“A fantastic proper pub, a gem of a place where in a city centre the punters still play darts. A nest of rooms await the visitor, small but comfortable and plenty of atmosphere. A good selection of Yorkshire cask ales and other keg beers. Food is available but we didnt eat this time. At the bottom they have a cosy events room for entertainment and the smallest stage I have ever seen adds to the charm. A nice beer garden on the lower side is another great sutprise. Welcoming, clean and full of atmosphere.”

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often praise the selection of cask ales, with Yorkshire real ales singled out repeatedly and one diner naming Pave The Way Pale Ale. Close behind is the traditional pub character, with several describing a nest of small, cosy rooms and a clean, well kept Victorian interior. Live music comes up often, including a cosy events room with the smallest stage one reviewer has seen, and a beer garden and darts are also mentioned. Bar snacks get a nod, with one reviewer having a locally made pasty, and the staff and landlord are described as friendly. The main complaint comes from one reviewer who returned a cloudy, sour Long Moor Pale. The bar worker said he knew it was off and had complained to the supplier, yet told them it would not make them ill, then charged for the replacement pint of Taylors Golden Best, so they left early. Even so, several reviewers say they would bring friends back, and one visited because his father had lodged there in the late 1950s.
