About The Bankers Cat

The Bankers Cat is a bar in Leeds city centre, at 29 Boar Ln, close to Leeds train station. It is a collaboration between Thornbridge and Pivovar, and the taps reflect both: real ale on cask and keg sits alongside Czech lager, with other lagers and ciders on draught. Green Mountain is among the beers poured. Booth seating with dark panelling fills the room. Portraits of cats in suits line the stairs down to the toilets.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often come for the Thornbridge ales, praising a great range on cask and keg, with the Green Mountain singled out as on good form and poured perfectly. One drinker also enjoyed the Czech lager, and others mention ciders and lagers on draught. Close behind is the room itself, described as relaxing, with dark panelling, gentle lighting and comfortable booths. Several note its closeness to Leeds Train Station, and one adds a pool table and portraits of cats in suits on the way to the toilets. Service is mostly called friendly, quick and knowledgeable, and one person who was unsure what to order was let try a few different drinks. The main complaint comes from one reviewer who says staff are usually not very engaging or knowledgeable, and who once received a pint with a very large head, though one bartender on a Wednesday evening was friendly and poured a really good pint. A couple of others say it can be hard to find a seat when busy, though there is plenty of standing room at the bar.

“Very impressed. The staff were really friendly and patient, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to drink and they let me try a couple different things. The bar and behind the bar was the most clean and spotless that I’ve maybe ever seen (!). They’ve completely outdone themselves here. On the way down to the toilets was many portraits of cats in suits which was brilliant, they might have used AI. Not sure, but gorgeous cats…”

“Superb bar in Leeds City Centre. A Thornbridge pub with a great range of their ales on cask, with Lagers, Ciders on draught. Didn't have food so not rated.”

“I recently visited this bar and had a really enjoyable experience. One of the first things that stood out was the fantastic range of drinks on offer. Whether you're looking for beers, ciders, wines, spirits, cocktails or soft drinks, there's something to suit everyone. The prices are also very reasonable, especially considering it's located in Leeds city centre, making it a great place to enjoy a few drinks without spending a fortune. Although I didn't order any food during my visit, I believe they do have a food menu available, which looked popular with other customers. It's nice to know you have the option of grabbing something to eat if you're planning to stay for a while. The staff were excellent throughout the visit. They were friendly, welcoming and very attentive, making sure customers were served quickly and efficiently despite the bar being fairly busy. Good customer service always makes a difference, and they certainly delivered. The venue itself is clean and well maintained. There are toilets located upstairs, along with a disabled toilet on the ground floor, making the facilities accessible for everyone. The atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming, making it an ideal place to meet friends, watch the world go by or simply enjoy a quiet drink. Overall, this is a fantastic bar with affordable prices, a great selection of drinks, friendly staff and good facilities. I would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Leeds and will happily return again in the future.”

“A top notch drinking establishment in the heart of Leeds which favours a more mature clientele. Great atmosphere with brilliant bar service, you're never long before being served. At busy times it can be difficult to find a seat but there's plenty of bar room available to stand and chat. The toilets are downstairs and also there is a pool table, a rather pleasant surprise find. All in all this pub is highly recommended.”
