Quick info
About The Adelphi
The Adelphi is a pub on Hunslet Rd in Leeds, set in a Victorian tavern with wood panels, old tiles and several rooms to sit in. Those rooms give groups and couples a choice of spaces. The bar pours cask ales alongside a selection of other beers, and a trio of bar snacks is available. Sunday roast is on the menu as a sharing roast, and roast rump of lamb is one of the dishes served. Dogs are welcome inside. Bills are paid at the bar, and a service charge is added automatically.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often return to the Sunday roast, with the lamb singled out repeatedly, including the roast rump of lamb with thyme-roasted potatoes and a ramekin of mint sauce, and one describing a sharing roast as huge. Close behind is the Victorian setting, which diners call rustic, cozy and like stepping back into history, along with a cask and ale selection described as impressive. One reviewer who couldn't decide ordered a trio of bar snacks and found them fresh, with great sauces. Service draws warm mentions for a waitress who kept everything under control and a server who made sure drinks were topped up, though one reviewer wished she would smile more. The complaints are specific. One group of five in their 30s says a staff member told them to be quiet at around 5pm for a "quiet, cozy sunday vibe", and they left early. Another party of 11 was seated at three separate tables in an empty room, with drinks and food slow to arrive. A diner also notes an automatic service charge and no staff check-in after the food was served, ending with a wait at the bar to pay.

“Has your soul been crushed by the inscrutable burden of the anthropocene? Do you wake up on Sundays with an impending sense of doom, unable to fathom facing another week of meaningless drudgery, yet know you must persevere in the Kafkaesque charade called existence, if for no reason other than indifference to the perpetual roundabout of time? Are you chronically insatiable? If so, you are in luck! By virtue of the benevolent fairies that guide my thumbs, I have stumbled upon England's one-and-only life changing lamb. These meats are not to be overlooked. Just today, my weary soul was graciously plied by a delightful barmaiden named Hanna, who insisted upon a treatment regimen of Roast Rump of Lamb with Thyme-Roasted Potatoes. Finally, the apocryphal sermons of my youth have found mouth-watering actualization by virtue of Mikey's tender loins and a ramekin of mint sauce. No longer will the cabbages of nihilism haunt my dreams! For I have been lifted like the rising pudding of Yorkshire, rescued at sea by the sterling gravy-boay of Providence. If you are a relatively well-adjusted person, this food is not for you. Rather, if you are like me, and seeking salvation in unlikely places, I implore you, for the love of all things holy: do not miss this life changing lamb!”

“A traditional pub with a relaxed and laid back vibe. It’s like stepping back into history. The food is of good quality.”

“The experience was ok. We arrived with a party of 11 to three separate tables, as if we would want to sit separately? The food was okay, the service was okay - it was all overall okay. It would’ve been nice to have one long table instead of us conjoining two tables. There was no one else in the room we were sat in, the drinks and food took a while.”

“Food was gorgeous and arrived promptly. We would argue it was good value for what we got, although we didn't buy alcohol with our meal! Food was cooked well and seasoned well. Service charge was added automatically, which was our minor issue. Once our food was served, we did not see another staff member until we left and paid our bill at the bar after waiting for a while for a return waiter.”
