About The Back Road Pub & Restaurant
The Back Road Pub & Restaurant is a pub on Queen St in Larkhall, with separate bar and lounge areas. A pool table sits inside, and a pub quiz night gives regulars an organised evening out. Food is served at lunchtimes only, and the kitchen does not run on some weekdays, so the meal service suits a daytime visit. The menu includes beer-battered haddock with chips and a steak pie, both cooked for the lunchtime crowd. Evenings centre on the bar, where Guinness is poured on tap.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often praise the friendly staff and regulars, with several describing a warm welcome, one noting their dog was made at home, and another giving the staff full marks at a surprise gathering. Food comes close behind, led by the fish: beer battered fish, a large haddock in batter with chips, peas and coleslaw, and a fish meal described as cooked to perfection. A steak pie bursting with filling, loaded nachos with plenty of cheese and salsa, and scampi and chips also draw praise, and several call the meals good value. Others mention a pool table, a good pub quiz and an excellent pint of Guinness. The main caveat is food availability. One reviewer found no food being served and suggests calling first, and another notes food is no longer served on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. One roast beef lunch brought plenty of beef but no roast potatoes, slightly undercooked veg and a disappointing pudding, though the ice cream was lovely.

“June 2024 please note that they no longer serve food on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Revisited today March 2022. Had a meal and was delighted. Best fish I have had in ages. Cooked to perfection. Great, friendly service. Highly recommend. Last pub left in Stonehouse. 25 years ago there were at least 4 others. I am not a pub goer so cannot comment on the bar. I do occasionally go for lunch in what must be the lounge. Comfortable place to go for a meal. Always good, friendly service.”
