About The Boaters Inn
The Boaters Inn is a riverside pub on Canbury Gardens in Kingston Upon Thames, pouring microbrewed pints. Live jazz plays on Sundays, so a drink and a set of music can share the same afternoon. The kitchen serves a Sunday roast with roast potatoes, meat and all the trimmings, which fits the same day. A pub trivia quiz runs on Wednesday nights, giving teams a midweek reason to drop in.

Customer Review Summary
Sunday roast is what reviewers return to most, described as generous and well cooked, with crispy roast potatoes, tender roast beef and all the trimmings. Close behind are the riverside setting and a welcoming, homey atmosphere, with plenty of seating inside and in the garden. Other dishes named include crab linguine, scotch eggs, roasted cauliflower, a tomato starter, and a rib eye with peppercorn sauce and chips. Several mention the dog-friendly welcome, and one notes a Wednesday pub quiz. Staff are often called warm and smiley, and one host credits the team with a stress-free graduation party for over 80 guests. Complaints centre on access and service. One local says walk-ins are repeatedly turned away as fully booked while indoor tables stay empty for over two hours, and another had to order drinks and desserts at the bar with no team members around, questioning the added service charge. One reviewer found the portions slightly small apart from the roast. The most concrete recurring detail is the roast arriving with crispy potatoes and tender meat.

“Stunning dog friendly pub, with a strong menu. The rib eye steak was delicious with the watercress salad dressing side and chips and peppercorn sauce. Kids menu as well as they are flexible where they can to swap items off your dish. I have visited twice and it was smashing ! Good atmosphere and regulars seem very welcoming. Definitely will be back!”

“I love the atmosphere. It has a well loved, homey vibe. The staff is great. The food is fantastic. The Sunday menue is a must. A wonderful dining experience in which you can have a view of the river and watch life drift by. A must place to visit in Kingston... Also, Wednesday nights the have a pub trivia quiz... loads of fun even when you're not very good at it.”

“Often frequented this pub over the years and never felt the need to leave a review but this time felt like it was due. We came for my mum's birthday a week or so ago and we were looked after so well by Leo!! So grateful for the amazing hospitality treatment and for being so good with our chaotic energy!!! Big up Leo! The tomato starter is a banger also!”

“I hosted my son's graduation party at the Boaters Inn, and what an incredible celebration it was! Heather, the manager and my event coordinator, was absolutely wonderful. Everything she promised was delivered exactly as planned, and despite there being over 80 guests, she and her team exceeded all of my expectations. As someone who had never hosted a party of this size before, I was understandably nervous, but Heather made the entire process stress-free. Everything ran seamlessly from start to finish. The décor and beautiful surroundings created the perfect atmosphere, and the food was absolutely delicious. It truly was a magical evening—one that my son, our family, and all of our friends will never forget. A heartfelt thank you to Heather and her amazing team for making this such a memorable occasion. 🙏”

“I live nearby and like this pub, but we are frequently turned away as walk-ins. Each time, we are told they are fully booked, yet many indoor tables remain completely empty during our entire visit (over 2 hours). Their staff are mostly friendly but this has unfortunately made us feel very unwelcome. We assumed that they didn't accept walk-in customers for indoor tables, but when we spoke to one of their staff, it seemed they don't have such a reservation policy. It could be a simple miscommunication, but it happens too consistently to feel like a coincidence. If this was not intentional, they might need to improve communication between staff.”
