Quick info
About Salim’s
Fried fish and fish pakora give Salim’s, a kebab shop on High Rd in Ilford, an unusual draw for its category, and they sit on the same menu as the grill work. The cooking follows a traditional Pakistani, homemade style, with seekh kebab among the regular orders and curries arriving with hot naan. Ordering runs on a walk-in basis rather than by reservation, and a queue is common when the counter is busy. Much of the trade is takeaway, which suits people eating off site. The kitchen also takes on outside catering for events, covering starters, mains and desserts. It opens daily.

“I’ve had a single kebab roll very good high quality but there is more to this then meets the eye, my favourite dishes is the lamb curry and chicken curry and it is very mild as there is a high quality to detail in them, it is mild and the atmosphere is pleasant and friendly,”

“I ordered a meat samosa with masala chai - this very delicious, had to wait for it which tells me it was freshly made not out of a machine. I was given a vegetable samosa instead and was accused of eating it! How was i supposed to find out that it wasn't meat? I only eat the top bit, then I broke it opened to discover that it wasn't meat. I wasn't pleased about that. But the meat samosas are super. I didn't try anything else but the food looks good. I bought some to freeze.”

“Tried to purchase some kebabs & nan for take away this lunch time. Awful service as it was busy lunchtime service and its geared towards people who the take away staff personally know. People came after me and were served first during this busy period, whilst I waited 25 minutes and still did not get served so I left empty handed. I would never come here again and for those who so want to, just remember whilst queuing to be served people who came after you will get there food first if they know the staff. Horrible establishment for first time visitors.”

“Ordered a lamb curry as a takeaway and unfortunately found a fly inside the dish. To be fair, I understand things can occasionally go wrong, my issue is entirely with how it was handled afterwards. I contacted the restaurant and, not wanting to be unreasonable, asked only for a partial refund since half the meal had already been eaten before the fly was discovered. A simple, fair compromise. Instead, I was met with denial, zero accountability, and a promise to "look into it" that was never followed up on. The amount in question is genuinely not a lot of money, which makes the whole experience even more baffling. It would have cost them so little to do the right thing, but they chose not to. Hygiene concerns aside, a restaurant's response to a complaint tells you everything about how much they value their customers. Would not recommend.”

“I recently hired this catering company for my event, and they absolutely smashed it. From start to finish, the food was outstanding—every course delivered on flavour, presentation, and quality. The starters were a perfect kickoff, packed with taste and beautifully prepared. The mains were just as impressive—generous portions, cooked to perfection, and clearly made with care. And the desserts? Easily the highlight for many of my guests—rich, indulgent, and the perfect way to round things off. Beyond the food itself, the service was smooth and professional, making the whole experience stress-free. Guests are still talking about how good everything was, which says it all.
