About Iman Restaurant

Nihari, served in a version made with brain, anchors the kitchen at Iman Restaurant, a Pakistani restaurant on High Rd in Ilford. Chicken and lamb karahi come on the bone, and the breads run from lahori naan through rogini and cheese naan to plain roti, with mango lassi poured alongside the curries. The dining room is large, finished with Persian decor, and it accommodates family dinners and larger group bookings, so reserving ahead is recommended. The entrance is step-free, which helps visitors arriving with wheelchairs or pushchairs, and high chairs are on hand for families with young children. Outdoor seating gives the option of eating in the open air, while takeaway orders suit anyone eating off site. The restaurant opens daily and sits off the main high road in Goodmayes, close to Goodmayes rail station with a bus stop in front. Channa is among the regular orders, and biryani is offered in lamb and vegetable versions.

Customer Review Summary

The karahi anchors most of the positive accounts, with reviewers ordering both chicken and lamb versions and calling the chicken karahi perfectly cooked and full of flavour, though one notes it still arrives on the bone. Close behind sit the biryanis, described as tender and filling, though two diners found the rice dry and one was disappointed to get only a single small piece of meat. Breads draw their own attention, the lahori naan surprising one reviewer with its flavour, and several also single out the nihari, the channa and the mango lassi. Descriptions of the room lean on its size and Persian decor, called rare for London and good for family dinners, though one visitor felt the ambiance lagged behind the food. The complaints are pointed: one large group reports cold, tasteless dishes and undercooked chicken, with the chef declining to come out and no apology offered, while another describes rude staff and slow service despite food that tasted nice.

“To rude staff and slow service. Food was nice”

“Seventeen of us went to Iman Restaurant with high expectations, but the experience was extremely disappointing and completely ruined our evening. The food quality was absolutely terrible — the dishes were cold, tasteless, and the chicken was not properly cooked. Serving undercooked food like this is completely unacceptable and irresponsible. What made the situation even worse was the attitude of the staff. We politely asked to speak with the chef, but he refused to come and talk to us. There was no apology, no accountability, and not even the slightest attempt to resolve the issue. It genuinely felt like customer satisfaction means nothing to them. Taking such a large group there and receiving such poor-quality food and service was incredibly frustrating. Spending money at this restaurant felt like a complete waste. I would strongly advise anyone considering this place to think twice before going.”

“We didn’t have a good experience ordering takeaway breakfast from here. However, eating in was a good choice. The food at Imaan is great. They really know how to cook. The restaurant is large with beautiful Persian decor. Comfortably spacious and easily accessible for wheelchair users and pushchairs. My husband and I ordered vegetable biriyani, plain pilau rice, Channa Dahl paneer, chicken karahi, dahl mash, dahl, rogini naan, cheese naan, Channa Dahl. Of course, this meal would be incomplete without the mango lassi. The restaurant is off the main high road in Goodmayes, London. Close to Goodmayes rail station on the Elisabeth line and 86 bus stop right in front.”

“I recently visited this restaurant with my wife and had a great overall experience. I ordered the Mixx Grilled Platter, and it was absolutely delicious — full of flavor and cooked to perfection. The pricing was quite reasonable for the portion and quality of food we received. The staff were very welcoming and made us feel comfortable from the moment we arrived. The restaurant itself was reasonably clean, which added to the pleasant dining experience. The only area that could use some improvement is the atmosphere. While everything else met or exceeded expectations, the ambiance felt a bit lacking and could be enhanced to better match the quality of the food and service. All in all, a satisfying visit, and I’d definitely consider coming back — especially if they make some updates to the décor and vibe.”

“Very good clean packaging! Great customer service! Good portions and FRESH salads! Not soggy and old salads like most places give. The nihari was amazing, the roti and naan were nice too. Their chicken curry is amazing! All of their curries are really nice, best Pakistani food in the area! The biryani was nice but tasted a bit dry and I only got one small piece of meat which was disappointing. I’ll order again because the food was still really nice!”
