About Bex's Coffee Shop & Coffee Roasters

Bex's Coffee Shop & Coffee Roasters is a coffee shop on Westbourne Rd in Huddersfield, at number 60A, where the coffee is roasted in the shop itself. The beans come from around the world, and the roasted coffee is sold in store in different blends, with bags kept on a shelf. The kitchen bakes the cakes and pastries on site, so the counter pairs a cup of coffee with something baked in the same building. The shop gives you the roasting and the baking under one roof.

Customer Review Summary

The complaints are sharper than the praise is long. Three one-star reviewers describe rude staff, one recounting a counter worker who answered a question about a cake flavour with "it has a label in front of it" and gave blank stares, so the customer walked out. Another says the coffee bags carry no roasted-on date and calls the shop expensive. A third found a hazelnut latte tasted like flavoured water, and one passer-by complains of a strong burnt smell that stinks out the whole road.

“Visited Bex's Coffee shop for lunch and really enjoyed my visit. Had a warm welcome from the team and enjoyed a freshly baked cheese swirl pastry for my lunch. It was packed with flavour and was served to my table nice and warm. The staff were friendly, good customers service, good value for money, the shop was clean and bright and there were sockets to to charge up which is useful. Plenty space to dine in, on street free parking, relaxing environment and will visit again.”

“The smell coming from this café is awful. It stinks out the whole road with a strong burnt smell, and it's unpleasant for everyone walking past. They really need to fix whatever is causing it because it's putting people off the area. I hope they sort it out soon.”

“Drove past many times and always been intrigued. Very disappointed, rude staff who make you feel like it's a chore to serve you. No "roasted on"date on the coffee so not ideal if you're really into your coffee, could have been sat on the shelf for an unknown amount of time. Oh and at least Dick Turpin wore a mask!!! I'm all for supporting local independent shops but ouch this place is expensive!!!”

“Did not even get chance to try the food!… upon arrival at the service counter one young staff member had a rude attitude when all I wanted to do was clarify what a cake flavour was. All I got was ‘it has a label in front of it!’. (Yes luv the labels were scrawled in red messy handwriting on the Perspex counter hood) … …. Accompanied with that remark from the rude assistant was the look of self entitlement…..’let’s start again I thought?!’ ‘Is that carrot cake?’….. again an arrogant blank stare from this individual with the look of ‘do you have to order because I want to go home and paint my nails’ Ok now I’ve had enough!… thank you that’s bloody rude, I’ll take my custom somewhere else! I have never come across such attitude from staff, anywhere, ever and I’ve travelled and lived around the UK , at times I have worked in hospitality! I have actually been here before and it was a pleasant experience, I never experienced service like it here before, so I can only presume that it’s the weekend staff who need more training on’ how to be polite to customers and lose the attitude!’ I suggest the owner trains his staff to a ‘higher standard’, because this was a training example of ‘how not to serve customers’. I’m afraid all he will end up with, will be potential customers (who line his pockets)walking out as we did! I feel embarrassed that I had recommended this establishment after raving on about how nice it was there, only to be both treated like this. Anyway all was not lost I had a lovely coffee and cake at a local garden centre instead where staff were courteous. Sort your staff out!!!”
