Quick info
About Mon Cafe Brighton & Hove
Mon Cafe Brighton & Hove is a Mediterranean restaurant at 150 Church Rd in Hove, serving French and Mediterranean cooking from breakfast through dinner. The cafe is BYOB, so guests bring their own wine, and a shop next door sells alcohol for anyone who arrives without a bottle. The menu includes French provincial dishes such as beef bourguignon and cassoulet de canard, and a Sunday roast comes with a vegetarian option. The dining space is small, with indoor seating and a covered courtyard garden at the back. Dogs are welcome. No service charge is added to the bill.

Customer Review Summary
Diners most often single out the lamb shank, its gravy called perfectly balanced by one reviewer and the dish ordered twice by another, with the beef bourguignon also ordered twice. Close behind is the Sunday roast, where one table received a complimentary side of pudding. Others name the carbonara, calamari starter, cassoulet de canard, swordfish, chicken stew and crème brûlée. Reviewers describe large portions, friendly staff and a cozy, homie room, with a covered courtyard and roof heaters on a rainy evening. The bring-your-own-bottle policy comes up repeatedly, with one noting an off licence next door. Complaints are minor: a jacket potato that looked black and brown inside and was hard, a carbonara one diner would have preferred with tagliatelle instead of penne, and a wish for more serving staff on a busy night. One lone server managing the room was still called very attentive, and one reviewer advises booking because the place is very small.

“Firstly, it was warm which was a big welcome, then the atmosphere matched it. I had Carbonara which was absolutely delightful. I'd have preferred it with Tagliatelle rather than penne but it didnt spoil it; just a preference. My friends had Swordfish and Chicken stew which they both loved. The service was fabulous. The price was very affordable. I highly recommend it here and as a local, will be back.”

“What a gem of a place! Absolutely fantastic, beautifully cooked food which is extremely good value for money and so tasty. A home cooked, ‘clean’ feel to every bite too. Welcoming and friendly, a lovely vibe - and don’t forget you can take your own bottle… (£4 corkage) . Would thoroughly recommend.”

“Lovely cafe in Hove. We sat in the covered outside courtyard as weather was good and it was lovely. The food was delicious and prices good. Staff were very friendly and service was excellent. Will definitely return. The Sunday roast looks good - will return to try out the veggie option for sure!”

“Absolutely gem of a French bistro. (But I saw brunch come out too and that looked fab) Authentic great tasting food. Lovely service. Courtyard garden at the back with classical music playing low was a dreamy atmosphere. This restaurant is just what I’ve been looking for, great food at a reasonable price… will definitely be coming back”
