Quick info
About Hixon Green
Hixon Green is a modern British restaurant on Church Rd in Hove, open daily and serving from morning coffee through to evening cocktails. The brunch menu centres on the Chorizo Hash, and the kitchen moves to garlic and chilli prawns later in the day. Sunday roasts have their own place on the menu. The drinks list runs across coffee, wine and cocktails, so the same room works for a daytime stop or an evening out. An upstairs room can be hired privately, which gives groups space for birthdays, baby showers and other events.

Customer Review Summary
The upstairs room for celebrations draws the most vivid praise, with one reviewer hosting a mother's 70th and another a birthday for 40 or more, both citing helpful service, divine cocktails and stunning interiors. Downstairs, diners describe friendly staff and tasty food, and sitting outside in the sun. The chorizo hash is called delicious with perfectly cooked eggs, and others name the garlic and chilli prawns, falafel and king prawns cooked on point. Close behind comes a recurring complaint about flavour. One reviewer found too much bicarbonate of soda in both pancakes and an overdone egg with the English breakfast, another found the Sunday roast lacking taste, and a third could not taste the pistachio in the pistachio chicken. Two diners who booked through First Table felt rushed or less valued, and one says the sea bass arrived with two pieces of broccoli, three small half potatoes and a tiny piece of fish, and a burger came out wrong. A team member apologised and sent dessert on the house.

“The service was quick and the food was tasty. I did feel like we were being rushed a little, maybe because we had booked through first table and weren’t a full paying customer. Also the main waiter looked like he would have preferred to be elsewhere. He was polite but looked a little grumpy. We had the garlic and chilli prawns and the falafel for starters and we both had the pistachio chicken for our mains. It all tasted delicious, however we both said that we couldn’t taste the pistachio at all. With all that said, we both had a lovely experience and will definitely be back for more!”

“It was a glorious sunny day, and as avid First Table users, we decided to check out Hixon Green in Hove. My partner had been before and only had good things to say about it, although he mentioned the menu had changed over the years (maybe under new management?). Since it was available on First Table, we thought we'd give it a go. The restaurant has a really stylish, bougie interior, making it a lovely spot for brunch or dinner with friends. As the weather was so nice, we chose to sit outside. The menu had plenty of choice, and the prices were very reasonable. We both ordered the Chorizo Hash, with a Bloody Mary and a lemonade to drink. The food didn't take long to arrive, and I was pleasantly surprised by the generous portion size. The Chorizo Hash was absolutely delicious—really well-balanced, full of flavour without being overly salty or spicy. The eggs were cooked perfectly too. I even ended up stealing a few bites from my partner's plate because it was that good! I arrived hungry and left completely full, which is always a good sign. We'll definitely be back!”

“We love visiting here. Great service with so many choices. We’ve had breakfasts, brunches, just coffee or a quick after work glass of wine. Never disappoints. The team are always friendly with great service with a smile. The above was 4 months ago. However, yesterday evening we attended for dinner using First Table. We felt penalised for doing so. The sea bass portion was very poor. We complained as only 2 pieces of broccoli and 3 small half new potatoes aswell as a tiny piece of fish was present. We were brought more vegetables but the waiter did seem annoyed with a bit of an attitude. The burger was the wrong order and therefore we had to eat separately. Another team member did apologise and gave us dessert on the house to which we accepted. The table next to us had also ordered the sea bass and the potion size was completely different to mine, this confirmed for me that we were in fact penalised for using the First Table app. The experience has left us not wanting to visit but we would not want to completely boycott the restaurant as usually it is of great quality. It is a shame and disappointing but we will probably visit for coffee only for a while.”

“Came on marathon day for Sunday roasts. Service was really nice and friendly, portions were big and the food looked amazing but taste was lacking. Would give it another go on another day as I'm local (and will obviously revise the review if it's different) but with so many great places nearby it didn't match them.”

“This was my second time there. Lovely food, lovely wine 🍷 It was a great time to catch up with my friend while brainstorming some business. The place was very clean. The king prawns were not very spicy and they were cooked on point. I will definitely be coming back...”
