About Banana Leaf

Banana Leaf is a Chinese restaurant in Hemel Hempstead, at 127-129 Marlowes, built around an eat-as-much-as-you-like buffet where diners order from the menu. The dishes span Thai, Chinese and Malaysian cooking, so a table can order across all three styles in one sitting and keep going for as long as they like. Ordering from the menu means each round of dishes is chosen by the table. The restaurant opens daily.

Customer Review Summary

Wasabi prawns come up most often, alongside king po prawns, beef in black bean sauce and chilli beef among the dishes reviewers rate highly at the all you can eat buffet. Several describe food full of flavour, not greasy and of really good quality, and say diners are not rushed between starters and mains. One reviewer says staff took a partner's egg allergy seriously. The sharpest complaint is service. Two reviewers who dined on the same birthday evening describe abrupt staff who refused them a larger table as the first diners in, then gave it to a couple who walked in minutes later. Two also mention noise. On the food, one reviewer found the salt and pepper squid thickly battered, the salt and pepper prawns undercooked with a flour taste, and the ribs fatty, though another praises crispy ribs. One reviewer urges ordering the wasabi prawns, and two say that despite a disappointing meal in the restaurant they would still use it for takeaway.

  • Mark Butterworth
“I have been to many Chinese buffets, and had many Chinese takeaways but truthfully none compare to this. All we spoke about during our meal was how amazing it was, everything was full of flavour, wasn’t greasy, and the service was impeccable. During our last plate we felt so full we couldn’t finish, but because of how good it tasted we still didn’t want to leave the food incase it upset the chef. Best Chinese we’ve ever eaten at. And best buffet restaurant we’ve ever eaten at (including other food types like pizza etc.) We can’t wait to return! Highly recommend!”
