About The Boathouse

The Boathouse is a restaurant on Monk Hesleden in Hartlepool, operating separately from the site's entertainment complex. Orders are placed at the table using its number, including through an app, and no advance booking is needed. Breakfast covers egg on toast options and adult pancakes served three to a plate with strawberries and syrup, alongside small bottles of orange or pineapple juice. Poached eggs sometimes arrive in little cups rather than prepared the traditional way. Vegan diners can choose a Mexican burrito bowl from the menu. The entrance is step-free and wheelchair-accessible, making it workable for visitors with mobility needs, and outdoor seating extends the dining space beyond the main room. Families with young children can request high chairs, and dogs are welcome throughout. Owners' or discount cards can be applied to reduce the bill.

Customer Review Summary

Price draws the most consistent comment across reviews, with several describing meals and even drinks as expensive for what's offered, one noting half a lager and a small coke came to just under seven pounds, and another comparing prices unfavorably to central London. Breakfast items draw similar complaints, with adult pancakes for a child priced near eight pounds and juice bottles running close to four pounds each. Close behind the pricing gripes is inconsistent service, with one diner describing sticky tables, a twenty minute wait for drinks after food arrived, and desserts only started once chased, though another reviewer singles out a staff member by role who applied a discount and a free drink when a caravan park issue came up. A vegan diner reports the burrito bowl was disappointingly sparse and feels dietary feedback has gone unaddressed. Despite the cost complaints, several reviewers still call the food good, with one praising a large salad and another calling a meal fabulous, particularly when an owner's discount applied.

“Typical parkdean restaurant. Food ok but expensive. Not very busy probably due to price in this economic climate.”

“Food was decent, no complaints there! Service is shocking!! Tables were sticky, we moved twice to find a clean table, clearly been washed with a sticky dirty cloth. I had to ask for them to wash it again. Ordered food and drinks through the app, after 20 mins drinks had not arrived but cutlery had. I asked at the bar, apparently the food order went through to the kitchen, but not to the bar for the drinks! We then ordered desserts, again I had to chase them after 25 minutes, and was told they are being made now. Clearly starting to make them as I had asked. The service was shocking on a Thursday tea time when it wasnt busy. I dread to think what it would be like on a busy night. Food wise would have returned, service wise Iwont return again.”

“We have a caravan on this site and won some vouchers to use in here. I am vegan and this year's menu choices are awful. I chose the Mexican burrito bowl and complained as there was hardly anything there. I know they have been trying for years to improve vegan and dairy free choices but their comments are not being listened to.”
