About Nonna's Cafe and Restaurant (Harpenden)
Nonna's Cafe and Restaurant is a Mediterranean restaurant on High St in Harpenden, serving breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner. Persian dishes sit alongside the Mediterranean menu, including kokoo sabzi and ghormeh sabzi, so a table can mix both cuisines in one meal. The morning menu covers breakfast and brunch plates, with shakshuka among them, and French toast and omelettes are also listed. Vegetarian sausages are available for those who skip meat. Tea comes by the pot in tea sets, which suits a slower meal over a hot drink. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
Breakfast and brunch draw most reviewers, with the Mediterranean Breakfast (one added grilled tomato), the shakshuka and the French toast singled out as delicious. Others name an omelette with ham, cheese and spinach, pancakes with fruit, honey and clotted cream, and fresh-tasting eggs alongside vegetarian sausages, with the coffee also praised. Close behind is the staff, described repeatedly as friendly, lovely and welcoming. One reviewer who held a bridal shower credits the hosts with a personal touch and says the wine glasses were never empty. One evening diner ordered mast khiar, kokoo sabzi, ghormeh sabzi and a lamb grill, calling the portions big and the flavours well balanced. The only complaint comes from one reviewer who found service slow when the place was still a restaurant, and who says it has improved since it became a cafe. Reviewers also mention the lovely tableware, a good baby changing facility, and a peaceful weekday brunch finished with tea in pretty little pots.

“The ambience was relaxing, (it was after 9am) and the decor was very appealing. The host was welcoming. I had the Mediterranean Breakfast (and added grilled tomato). I also had a pot of tea, which was in a very pretty set. The presentation of my Breakfast was visually appealing. The taste was delightful. I would go back again, and try other choices on the menu.”

“I was lucky enough to have my (surprise) bridal shower at Nonna’s and it was the most wonderful experience. Tabi and her daughter took the most wonderful care of us and truly went above and beyond to make it special and fun. They gave the whole event a personal touch which is quite rare! The food was absolutely exceptional, and our wine glasses were never empty. The area in general is so beautiful and really the perfect setting for any occasion.”
