Quick info
About Tabure St. Albans
Tabure St. Albans is a Mediterranean restaurant at 6 Spencer St in St Albans, cooking Turkish-inspired food on a charcoal grill with diners seated in front of it. The menu draws on Aegean and Asian influences and is built around meze-style small plates for sharing, alongside larger dishes that are sized for one person rather than the table. Among the plates are the kofte, chicken kofta served on flatbread with pickled onions, and hummus made with truffle. Baklava with pistachio ice cream closes the dessert list. Cocktails and a wine list sit alongside the food. For large groups, the restaurant hosts wedding lunches with pre-ordered meze-style menus.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the Turkish-style charcoal grill cooking and the sharing plates, with the kofte, served on flatbread with pickled onions or as chicken kofta, named repeatedly. Close behind are the halloumi, butternut squash, truffle hummus, labneh, Cyprus potatoes and tuna tartare, along with cocktails such as the Pisco Sour and the baklava with pistachio ice cream. Two couples describe hosting wedding meals here, with guests praising the food and staff as helpful and welcoming. Service is mostly called friendly, though one reviewer found the main waiter abrupt and rude, saying "that's too little" when they ordered. Another reviewer called the sharing format and small portions overpriced, citing burnt food, a chicken thigh with a strange texture, and a hot plate set down without warning. A few add that the large dishes are not big enough to share and that the window view is a brick wall and bins. The close of one account is a wedding lunch where the guests kept commenting on the food.

“We hired Tabure for our wedding and our guests could not stop talking about how incredible the food was. The atmosphere is perfect and the staff were so helpful. Nothing was too much trouble and we were made to feel so welcome and looked after. Our friends are getting married next year and have said they not feel under so much pressure as the standard set by Tabure for a wedding meal was so high! Could not recommend enough. Thanks Tabure for the perfect part of our wedding day.”

“Flavoursome food, great presentation and plates. I especially liked the atmosphere and decor. However, the main waiter was quite abrupt and rude, their way to upsell and suggest more plates is non existent, instead the waiter said "that's too little" quite exasperated when we ordered. Unfortunately I would not come back as we felt quite uneasy everytime we interacted with them. Also I believe polishing silverware should not be done in the bar as it was quite loud and obnoxious.”

“We booked Tabure for our wedding lunch 5th June St. Alban's and just cannot thank the team enough for the service they put on. We had one of our early dates at the restaurant and so it holds a special place in our history. Usually the restaurant is closed during lunchtime on a Friday and so our booking was the only party in the restaurant. The food was incredible, all of our guests were commenting about how good the food was. We pre-ordered a big selection of the menu for our 32 guests meze style. Gul, the manager is so friendly and warm and was especially helpful in planning our day. Just want to give Gul and the team a very special thank you for making our wedding lunch so special and we can't wait to return for our next date ❤️”

“We visited Tabure, excited to try what was described as an organic dining experience. Unfortunately, from start to finish, it fell well below expectations. Upon arrival, we were told it was a “sharing-style” restaurant something that was not mentioned anywhere on the website. While we were happy to give it a try, it quickly became clear that this was more of a tactic to encourage guests to order more small, overpriced dishes rather than a genuine dining concept. The service left much to be desired. A waiter placed a scorching-hot plate directly on our table without warning. When I instinctively reached for it, he saw but said nothing. We later witnessed the same thing happen to another table, and the guests actually burned themselves. As for the food, every dish lacked flavour and coherence. Many items were oddly paired seasonings and ingredients that simply didn’t go together not to mention the burnt food. The chicken thigh, for example, had a strange texture and did not seem fresh or organic as described. Overall, the food ranged from average to below average, and certainly did not justify our £200 bill for three people receiving tiny portions. The restaurant tries to present itself as Mediterranean or Turkish-inspired, but it felt more like a confused mixture of cuisines rather than the authentic or creative experience we expected. The interior décor was the only redeeming quality stylish and inviting but it couldn’t make up for the disappointing food, poor service, and misleading branding. I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant to anyone seeking a genuine organic or Mediterranean dining experience. There are far better options in St Albans that offer honesty, flavour, and value for money.”

“Tabure in St Albans is an absolute gem—easily one of the best dining experiences I've had recently. From the moment we walked in, the vibe was welcoming and stylish, with a modern yet cozy feel that perfectly suits sharing plates and lingering over drinks. The cocktails were outstanding and a real highlight. The Pisco Sour was phenomenal—perfectly balanced, frothy, with that bright lime kick and smooth finish. Speaking of the food, it was incredible. Everything felt fresh, flavorful, and thoughtfully prepared, drawing from Mediterranean, Aegean, and Asian influences in the best way. The grilled wings had amazing char and spice, piled high and impossible to stop eating. Then there were those gorgeous sharing plates: the vibrant truffle hummus, creamy labneh with fresh herbs, perfectly fried golden potato squares drizzled in sauce, and the standout kofte on flatbread with pickled onions and loads of greenery. Every bite was packed with bold, balanced flavors—nothing felt heavy or overdone. The baklava dessert with that generous scoop of local favourite Darlish pistachio ice cream on top was indulgent perfection—crispy layers, rich filling, and the ice cream melting just right. Service was amazing too—attentive without being overbearing, knowledgeable about the menu, and genuinely friendly. They made the whole evening feel special and effortless. Honestly, I have to give Tabure 5 stars all around. Food, drinks, service, atmosphere—everything hit the mark. If you're in St Albans (or willing to make the trip), book a table at Tabure. You won't regret it!”
