The Bombay Cottage
Quick info
About The Bombay Cottage
On Lower Auchingramont Rd in Hamilton, The Bombay Cottage is an Indian restaurant with a large dining room and a menu of curry and tandoori dishes. The naan bread comes out huge, and portions across the menu run large. A chicken chilli starter opens the meal, and tomato and coriander rice is on hand as a side. Lunch deals and a pre-theatre offer give two ways to eat here before the evening. Walk-ins without a booking can be seated, including for Sunday lunch. On occasions such as Father's Day, the kitchen runs a three-course set menu.

Customer Review Summary
The naan bread is what reviewers mention most, repeatedly calling it the biggest they have seen, with one saying two pieces would feed a party of six. Portions overall are described as large, with curries and rice served in same-sized cartons. Close behind are the South Indian chilli chicken, a chicken chilli starter, the Chardonnay Chesni lamb described as full of tikka lamb, tomato and coriander rice, and spiced onions. Curries are called aromatic with a balanced spice level. Staff are described as friendly, chatty and quick to keep glasses filled, and one diner says the manager found a table for a walk-in Sunday lunch. The criticism is less frequent but specific. A long-time customer says the chicken tikka main arrived with four pieces of chicken, the lamb rogan had small chunks of cheap lamb and may have been a dopiaza, and calls the place a slide downhill. Another left without staying because of how they were treated, and a regular was frustrated that gift vouchers expired with no extensions. One reviewer even photographed a hand beside the naan for scale.

“Because of the way we were treated, we decided not to stay. Very disappointing, especially from an Indian restaurant where we expected a warm and welcoming experience. I would not recommend this place based on our experience.”

“Been here on and off over the last 30yrs. Was always big portions of good quality food, on the expensive side but worth the treat. Feels like its diffrent ownwrs maybe? We paid £52 + tip for 2 meals with a nan. The Chicken Tikka main comes wirh smaller rice and FOUR PIECES of Chicken Tikka, the platter looked pathetic. You used to get at LEAST 6 PIECES. The Lamb Rogan was a let down too. I think.they might have gave me a Dopiaza instead. The Lamb was cheap and in small chunks too. Sad to see this place sliding downhill like this.”

“Called in for Sunday lunch, not having booked a table! Within five minutes the manager sorted us a table for two in his very busy restaurant! We had a fantastic lunch! Not only was the food brilliant, all the staff were happy to please and very attentive with at least six of them chatting away with us! We left feeling so glad we pick this restaurant to have lunch! Thank you “BC” Joeh.”
