About The Elby Inn
The Elby Inn is a pub in Glenrothes, set within The Laurel Bank Hotel on Balbirnie St. The building has separate restaurant and pub areas, and food is served in the pub itself. The supper club menu offers half price on the second main course when two are ordered. The food menu includes fish and chips, steak pie with chips and veg, and a roast dinner with roast potatoes. Several TVs in the bar show football. Dogs are welcome, so regulars can bring their own company along with friends for a pint.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often point to the midweek supper club, where a second main course is half price, and several describe good food at reasonable prices. Individual dishes draw praise: one diner calls the burger the best of their life, another says the fish and chips tasted fresh, and a roast dinner is noted for plenty of food and crispy roast potatoes. Close behind, staff are described as friendly, welcoming and polite, and one reviewer says the manager never stopped working. One reviewer suggests booking in advance on a busy Saturday. The criticism is mixed. One diner found a steak pie tepid, with a stale-tasting crust and a very pale base, and said the barman shrugged without an apology when told. That reviewer also found the football on several loud screens overwhelming in a small bar. Another says the curry came with heavily salted chips, and a third found little atmosphere, a small beer selection and the one beer they wanted sold out. A dog being petted by a local youngster and a visitor feeling welcomed stand out in one review.

“Couldn’t get in the restaurant at 5pm with our little dog so they said go through to the pub and we’ll serve you there. Sat at a wobbly table right under a large screen Tv which had the football on and volume was very loud (noticed there was 4 TV’s on in such a small bar showing the football). Ordered the steak pie with chips and veg. Hubby had chicken burger & chips. His food was hot mine not so much. The chips were hot as well as the vegetables but the steak pie was just tepid. The pie crust on top was cooked but didn’t taste nice it tasted a bit stale and the pie base was the whitest I had ever seen a pie base. The steak in the pie its self was cooked but wasn’t Hot. So I ended up giving the steak pie to my dog under the table minus the crust, and I just ate some of the chips and veg. I did tell the barman when he came to collect the plates about the pie but he just shrugged and took the plates. No apology… Hubby enjoyed his chicken burger. He said it was hot, but the homemade steak pie was horrible. I did eat some of chips and veg as I hadn’t eaten all day and was looking forward to a nice meal in a nice atmosphere ( which neither was).. Would I return? No!. Would I recommend? No! Wasn’t a good experience all round”

“I'm so happy I made the effort to come to Glenrothes. It was a quick decision, but we celebrated it with warmth and enthusiasm. Celebrate solo or accompanied, everyone is welcome. It's the first pub I've ever been in where one of the local youth asked if he could pet my dog and split my G 'fair play to the youngster' (and the pub), I gave fiddy per cent 🥰 and we all blended. As the only sassenach in the pub i was still "Weclomed' 🥰🤣”
