About Tinto Tapas Bar [EK]

Tinto Tapas Bar is a tapas restaurant on Hunter St in Glasgow, with the dining room upstairs and a downstairs space called the Nook. Dogs are welcome, so diners can bring them along. The menu is built around small plates for sharing, ordered in a broad selection across the table. Salt baked cod and queso de cabra, the baked goats cheese, sit among the plates, and the paella comes as a large portion. A tapas deal lets diners choose a set number of plates, such as three or five, with drinks included in some versions. The restaurant belongs to a group with other sites in East Kilbride, Uddingston, Largs and Troon.

Customer Review Summary

Salt baked cod is the dish reviewers name most warmly. One family called it a highlight, and it was the only plate a disappointed couple enjoyed, though they found it very oily. Close behind are the goat's cheese, described as a highlight and as baked, and the paella. Others praise the meatballs, the mozzarella sticks, the chickpea stew and a cheesecake described as out of this world. Several describe friendly staff and say the tapas deals gave good quality and quantity. The complaints are specific. One diner found the patatas bravas sauce heavy on paprika, and the chicken and chorizo turned out to be overcooked chicken and salami. Another called the tortilla de verduras barely edible. A voucher diner disliked the set menu with olives, the poor service and the loud music. One couple stood in the doorway unwelcomed while a lone waitress covered the room. One group's paella was so massive that three people could not finish it.

“Visited with my wife for the first time for lunch, entrance from the street was poorly maintained but interior was comfortable. We shared 6 tapas, highlights queso de cabra & paella, biggest disappointment was the tortilla de verduras, barely edible. Great service from Connor but tracksuit trousers didn’t fit with restaurant expectation. Wouldn’t rush back.”

“Used a wowcher deal which was for 5 Tapas for 2 and 2 drinks. It was a set menu so couldn't pick what we would like which was not very good for me as I don't like olives. Service was poor and the music was way to loud. Left within an hour. Don't think I will be back.”

“Went for lunch here today 12th may and the food was lovely, great selection and the portion sizes where perfect.. Sam (our waiter) was fantastic, knowledgeable and great conversation(sorry again about the candle).. lastly I don’t want to spread too much awareness about this as there will be less for us but GOOD LORD the cheese cake is out of this world! 10/10 will be back for more of that cheese cake with some tapas on the side.”

“Food was amazing, highly recommend! Came out a little fast however we didn’t mind! The meatballs and mozzarella sticks(fried cheese) were definitely a must have! The service was amazing, Leah Sam & Ignacio were so kind and really looked after us! Atmosphere was lovely too!”

“My husband and decided to try Tinto Tapas for our anniversary dinner last night and were really disappointed. We had been to the Nook downstairs before and expected a similar kind of experience upstairs but the restaurant was so dated and dingy. When we first arrived the only waitress working (who was lovely but absolutely run off her feet) was busy bringing food out to a large table, so we must have stood in the doorway for 5-10 minutes without anyone welcoming us. The smells and smoke coming from the kitchen were quite intense and unpleasant and we considered leaving there and then, but we didn't have anything else booked and decided to stay and hope for the best. I wish we hadn't. The food was terrible. The patatas bravas (a staple in any good tapas restaurant) was awful. The sauce had far too much paprika in it and tasted more like prawn cocktail crisps than the Spanish classic. The chicken and chorizo dish was actually chicken and salami and the chicken was overcooked...it was also swimming in oil. The only thing I enjoyed was the cod dish but again it was very oily. Everything was oily. I really don't understand all the good reviews. On top of the bad food, the wine list was bang average, the atmosphere was lacking and the music was terrible. The only positive was the lovely waitress but she was fighting a losing battle having to manage so many tables on her own.”
