Customer Review Summary

Steak draws the most praise, from the Wednesday steak night ribeye and sirloin, preceded by haggis and black pudding bon bons with peppercorn sauce, to a Father's Day steak described as huge and a steak pie one reviewer rated 10/10. Close behind is the Auldhouse Roast, where diners single out the gravy and Yorkshire pudding, alongside duck spring rolls and duck parfait from the Father's Day menu. The full Scottish breakfast, served on hot plates, and an afternoon tea with live music also earn strong words. Staff come up in nearly every review as friendly and attentive, and reviewers also describe a lovely atmosphere. The one real complaint comes from a single reviewer: a steak pie with chewy meat that was mostly left, a dark and dingy room, and a ladies toilet with no toilet roll and only one cubicle, though that reviewer still called the young staff brilliant. Another describes the team accommodating a very last minute allergy request on the day of the afternoon tea.

“There is a wonderful community spirit with lots of inspired events. I was lucky enough to be the guest author at the July Book Club meeting. Great chat, cheese and wine on offer and over £130 raised for Cancer Research UK. Thank you to all the members plus organisers Max, Amanda and Agnes.”

“First time trying here after hearing how great the food was although that was probably a year ago now. Steak pie the meat was so chewy I left most of it and with a supplement of £5 so 17.95 definitely not worth it. It was very dark and dinjy. The only thing that saved this place was the staff which was only reason we left a good tip. I then on way out went to ladies toilet and not abit of toilet roll and only one cubicle. We will definitely not be back but the young girls that work for you were brilliant”

“We dined here for their recently launched breakfast menu and what can I say, we were so glad we did. The cooked breakfasts had a good range of options and catered for vegetarian and vegan tastes. There is a lovely warm cosy atmosphere at the Auldhouse arms, it really does feel like an old friend and it’s good to see it going from strength to strength under its new management. Well the full Scottish breakfast was absolutely exceptional, amongst the best I’ve ever had. My partner was raving about it too. Everything tasty fresh and great quality, nothing has been skimped here. Full marks for hot plates which kept the food nice and hot so you could savour every bite, this is something which a lot of places don’t do so huge credit to them for being ahead of the curve. Excellent service, and very reasonable prices too. Enjoyed a latte and a fresh orange to wash the breakfast down with. My partner settled for the breakfast tea and again lovely brews all round, and the orange juice hit the spot. Set us up for the day and I think this has now become a regular weekend breakfast occasion now which is excellent news. Highly recommend and thanks to the chef, cook waiting staff and management for excelling themselves. Very well done indeed!”

“We visited for Father's Day lunch yesterday and had a fantastic experience. The food was amazing—full of flavour, served piping hot, and the portions were very generous (steak was huge). The waiting staff were friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcome throughout the afternoon. The atmosphere was great, and everything was well organised despite it being a busy occasion. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and would definitely recommend this restaurant to others. We'll certainly be back!”
