About The McMillan Bar + Chop House
On Pollokshaws Rd in Glasgow, The McMillan Bar + Chop House is a chophouse restaurant with American diner-style booths in its dining room. The kitchen works with locally sourced meat and seafood, and steak comes with chips and sides such as onion rings and mac and cheese. The Chateaubriand is on the menu, and jalapeno and pineapple chicken wings give the starters a different direction. Dessert is the McMillan Sundae. A bar pours wines and cocktails alongside the food. At lunch, a set menu offers three courses.

Customer Review Summary
Steak is the dish diners raise most, described as cooked to perfection and "really very good", with the house red mentioned alongside it. Chips and fries come close behind, praised as seasoned and crisp, while the McMillan Sundae, the jalapeno and pineapple chicken wings, and the arancini balls each earn their own enthusiasm. Several reviewers describe the staff as friendly and attentive, and one calls the set menu lunch generous in portion. The recurring complaint is the automatic 12.5% service charge, which two reviewers call unnecessary or steep. Parking draws two complaints as well, including one reviewer who was blocked in by staff cars until they were moved. Smaller criticisms include a Chateaubriand that no longer comes with vegetables, garlic mushrooms that tasted as if they had sat out, and one diner who found service slow in a mostly empty room and was told a birthday cake brought in could not be cut. Another birthday went better, with the dessert arriving on a plate with Happy Birthday written in chocolate and a candle on top.

“Visited today ( 20/08/2026 ) just as service started can't fault the place! I didn't get any of the severs names but the gentleman that greeted and served us initially was fantastic ( blonde guy with glasses ). The young lady who checked on us and sorted our bill was also phenomenal! Very attentive staff and the food was fresh, prompt and exactly as expected 👍 The house red was excellent and paired well with my steak. Will definitely be back regularly.”

“Wife organised a suprised birthday for me here. When she booked she mentioned it was a surprise birthday. When my sister bought my birthday cake in she was told we weren’t aloud to cut it due health and safety reason. We wouldn’t have booked this place if we were told this when making booking. Food was ok but service was poor. Place was 75% empty and with 5 up front of house I still had to ask to have our order taken. A service with a smile goes a long way. Definitely not from this place.”

“Daniel provided exceptional service from start to finish. He was friendly, attentive, professional, and made us feel genuinely welcome throughout our meal. Nothing was too much trouble, and he regularly checked that everything was perfect without being intrusive. The food was excellent, but Daniel’s outstanding customer service made the whole experience even better. He is a real credit to the restaurant, and I hope his hard work is recognised. Thank you, Daniel, for making our visit so enjoyable!”

“Food was lovely. We ordered garlic mushrooms on the side which tasted as if they were sat out for quite a while but other than that the food was really nice. The arancini balls were amazing!”

“Been here many times as its close by. Food is always tasty and hot. Staff are fantastic.. Yes the 12.5% service is a bit steep.. but its a lovely atmosphere in here. Bit disappointed though that the Chateaubriand doesn't include veg on the side any longer..for the price they could easily have a roasted tomato or greens..”
