About The butterfly and the pig

On Bath St in Glasgow, The Butterfly and the Pig is a restaurant and bar with an upstairs tearoom that serves afternoon tea on mismatched china. The tea comes with sandwiches, scones and homemade cakes. The rooms pair vintage wallpaper with furniture that does not match. The menu runs to seven dishes, including the Butterfly And Piglet Burger and the Soup Of The Day, with pork belly bites as a starter. Live bands and DJs play in the evenings, so the place works as a music venue as well as a dining room. The kitchen also serves a Sunday roast.

Customer Review Summary

Steak pie is the dish reviewers raise most, with diners calling it perfect and pairing it with pork belly bites, haggis, a Sunday roast, and brownies. Close behind is the upstairs afternoon tea, where reviewers describe fresh sandwiches, warm scones, homemade cakes, a Victoria sponge, and mismatched china by candlelight. Service is repeatedly called friendly, and the atmosphere warm and charming, with one reviewer enjoying a traditional group playing. The complaints are specific. One reviewer with a gluten allergy reports being served a normal bun despite raising the allergy at booking and with every item ordered, says it made them very sick, and had not heard back from the restaurant after reaching out. Another regular for afternoon tea says the teas they wanted were often out of stock and did not find the place accessible because of the stairs to the entrance and washroom. Visitors from abroad speak warmly of the food, and one American tourist liked the roast and pie so much that they came back a second time.

“Wow! Do NOT MISS THIS! We traveled throughout Scotland for 2 weeks and at the end of our journey we popped into this place for a bite for a late lunch/early dinner and it’s by far the BEST food we had. We had the pork belly bites as a starter and wow! Even the wee salad was amazing. The steak pie was perfect and my husband had the steak (to which he is never impressed by at restaurants) and he said it was probably the best one he has had at a restaurant- ever. Absolutely amazing food and the service was just as good. Enjoy!”

“We had a sunday roast there which was DELICIOUS and amazing value for money. Some days later we went for afternoon tea in the upstairs tearoom which was also really good. Both times the service was really friendly.”

“I have a gluten allergy and chose to eat here based on their menu stating their servers have extensive knowledge of allergies. I put the allergy in the reservation, stated it before I ordered, and reiterated it with every item I ordered and was still served a normal bun, which made me very sick. I reached out to the restaurant to let them know, and have yet to hear back (it’s been 3 days) Beyond that, this restaurant is nothing like they advertise on their social media. Extremely different experience than they put out.”
