Customer Review Summary

Steak is the dish reviewers praise most, described as perfectly cooked, with the mussels in a prosecco sauce, chargrilled sea bass, French toast with bacon and an eggs benny with black pudding also singled out. Several call the portions generous and the prices reasonable, and the staff come up repeatedly as friendly and professional, with one mention of a birthday lunch made more special. The lasagne splits opinion: one diner calls it outstanding, while another received a thick, cheese flavoured broth with a few small bits of pasta, served in a cast iron dish that stayed boiling hot while the paper napkin stuck to the plate. The sharpest complaint comes from a breakfast visit, where beans on toast arrived in a tiny sauce pot, extra beans were charged at a high price, and hard toast was sent back and replaced with more hard toast. That diner left still hungry, though the coffee and black pudding were nice. One reviewer also warns that the pepperoni on the pizza is properly spicy.

“⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ This was my second visit to Nonna’s Kitchen. I first came about a year ago and was so impressed that, when I was back in Scotland for work, I deliberately decided to stay in the area so I could come back – this time bringing my partner with me. Somehow, it was even better than I remembered. The mussels cooked in a prosecco sauce were quite simply the best mussels I’ve ever had. Absolutely outstanding. For mains, my partner had the chargrilled sea bass, which was beautifully cooked and absolutely delicious, while my steak was cooked perfectly. The service was every bit as good as the food. Roberto, who told us he had only been working there for around two months after previously working in casinos, looked after us and was genuinely first class – friendly, attentive and professional throughout. It’s rare to go back somewhere you remembered being excellent and have it completely exceed your expectations the second time around. Fantastic food, fantastic service, and somewhere I will absolutely return to again.”

“This an Italian restaurant in the centre of Kirkintilloch. We were there on a Saturday night and it was busy. Great atmosphere and excellent staff. The food was really good too. I had a steak which was perfectly cooked. Portions are really good, but be warned, the spicy pepperoni on their pizza is properly spicy!”

“This is the second time I've visited this restaurant. on my initial visit which was probably a year ago, my first impression was the small portions, and I don't like leaving a restaurant feeling like I could stop at a Takeaway on the way home for something to eat. On this my second visit, the portions were more generous so the portion size issue would appear to be addressed. The restaurant itself is well laid out with a pleasing view over the Forth and Clyde canal, it offers a varied menu focusing mainly on authentic Italian cuisine. The staff are polite, very professional and the service was excellent so absolutely no complaints there. My partner ordered a chicken dish which was well presented, cooked to perfection, and she enjoyed it immensely. Being an Italian restaurant I decided to go for something traditional so I ordered the Lasagne. This was served in a cast iron dish which it had also been cooked in, so it was boiling hot, the iron dish also held the heat so my partner had finished her meal before I could even start mine, I couldn't empty the metal dish onto the plate because a serviette was put on the plate to protect it from the hot dish and the paper was now firmly stuck to the plate below. The lasagne was like no other lasagne I've had before, I'm no chef but to my simple tastes a lasagne consists of mince, vegetables, bechamel sauce and mozzarella cheese layered with sheets of lasagne pasta then baked in an oven. What I got was hard to describe, it was a kind of thick cheese flavoured broth with a few small bits of pasta in the middle which to be fair did slightly taste like lasagne, it just didn't look like one. The other pasta dishes the waiter was serving all looked beautiful and were no doubt delicious, it was only my lasagne that was disappointing. Would I eat there again? yes I certainly would, it's a nice well placed restaurant and everything on the menu looks really good. Marks out of ten? I would give it a firm seven.”

“Came in for lunch to celebrate my mums 65th birthday and we had the best time! Food and atmosphere were on point! A big mention to Sophie who made it even more special! We will be back!”

“First time visiting. Service was really good and an engaging, chatting and friendly waiter/manager. French toast and bacon was just perfect with a very good portioned maple syrup. Will definetly be back.”
