About Thatched Cottage
On Prospect Rd in Farnborough, Thatched Cottage is a pub with a restaurant, set in an old thatched building fitted with wood panelling, fireplaces and dark wooden beams. The menu runs to about 20 dishes, with roast dinners of chicken or beef, including a Sunday Roast, and steak and chips. Afternoon tea brings sandwiches and scones with clotted cream and jam, and Prosecco can go alongside it. At the bar, ale and a pint of Guinness sit next to the food, and Holumi Bites and cakes round out the menu. Dogs are welcome, so owners can bring them along. A car park serves the pub, and customers enter their registration into a device inside for the third-party company that enforces parking.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often praise the friendly, welcoming staff and the old thatched building, with the Sunday-style roasts getting specific credit: one diner singles out the generous amount of beef, alongside honey and ginger pork belly bites and halloumi fries. Close behind are the Thatched burger with fries and onion rings, and the steak and chips, both called good. An afternoon tea with scones, clotted cream and jam also draws praise. The beer garden, good selection of beers, easy parking and a dog-friendly welcome come up repeatedly, and one reviewer calls it a local boozer feel. The food draws mixed reports, with one reviewer describing it as sometimes very nice and sometimes a bit disappointing. A birthday party was told most of the menu was unavailable, then waited an hour for food that never came, with no steak or chunky chips to be had. Another reviewer received a parking fine by post after not knowing their registration had to be entered into a device at the pub, and says no signs or staff mentioned it.

“This is a warning to others that are driving to the Thatched Cottage. We stopped in for a few drinks, was nice enough. Some days later we got a parking fine through the post from one of these third party parking enforcement companies, advising us we had to pay a £100 parking fine. We were unaware that we had to put our registration into a device at the pub to validate that we were a customer. We did not see any signs nor did any staff mention the need to do this to us. This became quite an expensive stop for drinks.”

“Enjoyed afternoon tea in a very pretty room, tasty sandwiches, a good selection of dainties, scones with clotted cream and jam. A glass of Prosecco and pot of hot tea, what more could you want and with friendly service.”

“A great pub. Lovely old building good selection of beers, friendly staff, has a local boozer feel to it. Nice beer garden too. Not eaten here so haven't scored the food.”

“An enjoyable dinner and drinks in a beautiful historic pub ending with drinks in the garden as the sun set. A real little local treasure. Positive cheerful service and a lovely place for a 'home -cooked' meal. Was told the menu is cgsnging soon but the steak and chips was great!”

“Cold atmosphere, none of the food was available. Was looking to spend £20 to £30 per person for a birthday meal and when we ordered food were told they barely had anything so we complied with what was apparently available. Shocker, one hour later the food still hasn’t arrived and I have been told there is no steak or chunky chips. The poor waitress tried her best but it was so awkward”
