Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often praise the food as authentic rather than generic curry-house fare, with the tandoor naan singled out as well risen and charred, and the meats described as tender. Delivery diners name the chicken tikka masala, achari bhindi and black daal, another picks out the chicken lollipops, and one calls the Paloma cocktail perfectly balanced and refreshing. Several describe attentive staff who explain the dishes and ingredients, and the evening atmosphere is said to have a real buzz, with music that gives a club-lounge feel. Complaints are fewer but specific. One anniversary diner received no welcome or introduction to the dishes, no offer of more drinks and no dessert menu, and noted dirty plates stacked beside the table. Another found a couple of mains lacking depth, with the Rogan wanting more smoky flavour, and one did not enjoy the keema matter. A vegetarian couple celebrating a birthday were surprised with a complimentary cake and a table-side visit from the chef.

“We visited last night to celebrate our fifth wedding anniversary, and unfortunately, we left feeling quite disappointed. For me, service is one of the most important parts of a restaurant experience, and this is where Bombay Social fell short. We weren’t really welcomed or introduced to the dishes, weren’t asked if we wanted any additional drinks, and weren’t even offered a dessert menu. For an anniversary dinner, those little touches make a big difference. The overall atmosphere also felt a little strange. The staff didn’t seem particularly happy or engaged, the manager who seated us was later sitting down having his own meal in the restaurant, the kitchen lights were switched off behind us at the end of service, and all dirty plates kept being stacked in large rack of next to our table. None of these things individually would be a huge issue, but together they made the experience feel quite unpolished. It’s a shame because you can see that real effort has gone into the interior, and the main courses were decent. There’s clearly a good restaurant in there, but when you’re charging a premium, the service and overall experience need to match. You want places like this to succeed, but sadly, we won’t be back.”

“Having grown up with Indian food, I can be quite particular, so I was pleasantly surprised by just how much this restaurant got right. The food was beautifully presented, the atmosphere was warm and upbeat, and the service was excellent. The staff were attentive throughout the evening and, refreshingly, were genuinely knowledgeable about the dishes, ingredients and cooking methods. It was lovely to see them confidently explaining the menu to diners rather than simply taking orders. A particular mention also goes to the Paloma cocktail. It was beautifully presented, perfectly balanced and incredibly refreshing—one of the best I’ve had and an ideal accompaniment to the meal. One of the biggest highlights was that this isn’t another restaurant serving generic, orange-coloured “curry house” dishes. The food felt authentic and thoughtfully prepared. The meats were beautifully tender, and the naan was exceptional—well risen, perfectly cooked in the tandoor, with that distinctive char and texture that only a proper tandoor can produce. If I had one small criticism, it would be that a couple of the mains lacked the depth of flavour that cooking meat on the bone naturally brings. I appreciate that many diners prefer boneless meat, but perhaps the curries could be cooked with chicken wings or bones to enrich the sauce before they’re removed for serving. The Rogan, in particular, would have benefited from a little more smoky depth—perhaps using the traditional dhungar (charcoal smoking) method before being brought to the table. We were initially hesitant about visiting after reading some rather negative TripAdvisor reviews. However, given how difficult it can be to find genuinely good Indian restaurants outside London, we decided to take the chance—and we’re very glad we did. We’ll definitely be returning. If you’re looking for authentic, well-executed Indian food rather than the usual generic curry-house fare, this restaurant is well worth a visit.”

“Why People Keep Coming Back to This Restaurant (We Found Out Why) Booked this place after hearing it mentioned a few times locally and now it makes sense. From the moment we walked in, it felt effortless. No awkward waiting, no overdone service, just sharp, attentive staff who knew exactly what they were doing. The food is where it wins. Everything came out quickly, properly hot, and actually tasted like someone in the kitchen cares. No filler dishes, no shortcuts. One or two plates stood out to the point you would come back just for them. Prices sit in that sweet spot where you do not feel robbed, but you are clearly getting more than average. It is not trying to be trendy or overcomplicated and that is exactly why it works. You leave full, satisfied, and already thinking about what you would order next time. That is why people keep coming back.”
