About Tempting Tattie
Tempting Tattie is a Scottish restaurant on Jeffrey St in Edinburgh, near Waverley station and the Royal Mile, and it has been a baked potato shop since 1974. Baked jacket potatoes are the main item, and the kitchen tops them with homemade fillings such as haggis, pulled pork and the Wok N' Loaded. Salad toppings come free on the potato, and meat or other extras can be added on top. Orders are placed at the counter, and the shop is small with limited seating inside.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers come for the loaded baked potato, described as soft and pillowy with a crisp skin and generous, flavorful fillings. Haggis, cajun chicken, and cheese and beans with a side of chili con carne come up repeatedly. Others single out the pulled pork, brisket with crispy chicken, mac n cheese, and a tuna add-on with the Uncle Sam's. The Dirty Diana and the Wok N' Loaded also draw praise, and one pair liked the spicy Terminator panini. Portions are called generous, and several describe the price as affordable for the amount of food, with one reviewer suggesting arriving pretty hungry. The main trade-off is space. The small shop stays very busy, and a few note that inside seats are hard to get, though the counter staff are described as friendly and quick. Many take their potatoes to go, eat at the sidewalk seating, or walk to the park by the train station. One couple liked it enough to eat there twice in a few days.

“Most delicious spot on the street id argue. I didn’t even consider potatoe being a yummy meal before this restaurant. It may look tiny but it seriously packs a flavour punch. I got the Uncle Sam’s with a tuna add on and I think I honestly found heavenly comfort food, especially with how cold it was outside. Loved it to bits — you can’t leave Edinburgh without!! 😋”

“If you find yourself wandering near the Royal Mile and craving a quintessential, no-nonsense Scottish meal, The Tempting Tattie is a standout choice. It is the perfect spot for a quick, warming lunch that focuses on one thing and does it exceptionally well: the baked potato. The concept is straightforward but highly effective. You choose a jacket potato—perfectly baked with a crisp, golden skin and a fluffy, steaming interior—and pair it with a generous selection of hearty, comforting fillings. Whether you go for the classic cheddar and beans, a savory chili, or a traditional haggis topping, the portions are substantial and the ingredients feel fresh. It is an ideal "grab-and-go" or casual sit-down option for a busy day of sightseeing, especially when the Edinburgh weather turns chilly. It avoids the tourist-trap feel of other nearby eateries, offering instead a reliable, affordable, and deeply satisfying bite that hits the spot every time. The servers behind the counter are friendly, welcoming and very efficient.”

“I haven’t tried anything here I didn’t like. The food is always flavorful and fresh and the staff is kind and welcoming. The Mac n cheese, chili, tuna, chicken, everything is great here on their potatoes. The place is small and good luck parking but it’s close to Waverley station so you should be fine if you’re coming from afar. Luckily I live around the corner and am a repeat customer.”

“God bless this fine establishment for their valuable contributions to the edinburgh food scene. I came in absolutely peckish running on nothing but water and the sheer human will to live. I proceeded to order the most scrumptious delicious satisfying tattie a man can have access to. I overloaded on the protein and the salad options are free on top. I had the brisket, crispy chicken, and sweet chilli chicken and the cheese, and for the salads the guacamole, crispy onions, corn, and I can’t remember the name of the sauce. The place was very busy (as expected) but the grub was indeed ready quite quickly actually. Now some of you have objected (impossible since I can’t be messaged but indulge my delusions please) asking me why I keep using the word indeed. Indeed it’s none of their business. Anywho, food was delicious and filling, portion size was honestly insane compared to the little money I spent. They have a cute seating area on the sidewalk where I set up and watched the office while my taste buds engaged in a dalliance with immaculate flavors. I highly recommend this humble establishment.”
