About Dalgety Fish Bar

Fish suppers with chips are the mainstay order at Dalgety Fish Bar, a fish and chips takeaway on Moray Way N in Dunfermline. The fryer menu runs from haggis suppers to sausage suppers, including a smoked sausage version, and chips come with salt and sauce, the local way. A Kebab Meat Hoggie sits alongside the fried range, widening the choice beyond the fryer, and pizza is on the menu too. Orders can be phoned through to the shop, and a queue can form at busy times of day. The counter opens daily.

Customer Review Summary

The fish supper is what reviewers return to most, with several praising fish cooked well, the right amount of batter, and chips called decent sized and tasty, one visitor noting the salt and sauce version was spot on. Close behind, the sausage supper draws repeat orders as a go-to, and one reviewer who tried the pizza this time called it very, very good, while another stopping in to feed the kids described freshly done, hot food. The complaints are frequent enough to sit alongside the praise. Two reviewers describe fish that was mush inside or showed black, gray and white patches with wet, soggy batter, one binning it. Portion size draws its own grievance: one describes a tiny smoked sausage supper and being told by phone that this was simply standard. Others mention chips that tasted reheated or left too long under the heat lamp, a long queue while staff chatted, and a first-time order given away to another customer, then remade fresh.

“We are not local to this chipshop, stopped here to feed kids after a day at Silver Sands. Oh wow, superb food, freshly done, hot food. Will definitely be back!!”

“Our go-to chippy. Usually order the sausage or fish supper and they're consistently great, went for a pizza this time and it was very, very good. Highly recommend.”

“The worst fish I've ever had from a chippy Its was just mush inside. Food establishments get one chance' if they can't do the basics well first time then I definitely won't be back”

“The fish was black gray and white patches. The batter wet and soggy. The worst fish I have had. Will not be going back. I went upstairs and there was a 7 person que and the staff were just yapping to a friend. I waited 14 mins then left. Got home, looked at my large single fish which was small at best and chucked it in the bin. Dreadful.”
  • Alfred Greene
“I recently visited Dalgety Fish Bar. I’ve enjoyed food from here in the past, which is why I was slightly disappointed this time around. …”
