About Hallcross
On Hall Gate in Doncaster, Hallcross is a pub with a focus on real ale and cask ale, pouring its own Stocks brewery ales alongside several guest ales and a craft beer offering. A gig room in the back hosts open mic sessions, tribute bands and folk nights, and the same room is used for the beer festival. The food side runs to bar snacks and pizza, with hot pork scratchings and the No Clucks vegan burger and fries served at the bar. Football and other sports show on the TV. Dogs are welcome, and the front seating faces a busy crossroads.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers come to the Hallcross mostly for its real ales, especially the pub's own beers on tap alongside several guest ales, with a sweet malty bitter singled out. Close behind is the Friday and Saturday entertainment, including open mic sessions, tribute bands and a folk night, which one reviewer calls the real charm. Sports on the TVs and a beer festival with a back room also get mentions, and a few praise the friendly, welcoming staff, one of whom brought water for a dog. Vegan burgers and fries from a bar food stall earn enthusiastic praise, and warm pork scratchings come up more than once. Food is otherwise limited, with bar snacks like pre-packaged sandwiches, and one reviewer thought the pizza looked poor. The main complaints are quiet nights with few customers, a rowdy atmosphere when football is on, and one reviewer who found some spirits poured without measuring and so weak. Several mention cheap pints, with one pointing to Grolsch or Tetleys at a low price, and one reviewer on a cheap bundled deal still enjoyed the cans of lager and bottles of Corona.

“Covid-19 update April 2021 Outdoor drinking only. Check in with the NHS app or they will take down your details. There's hand sanitiser. Find a free table. They will take your order. It's still only 2.50 a pint. My 1st time in a UK pub this year. My closest pub. There's a clear sign at the entrance on a table saying please wait to be shown to a table. There's also hand sanitiser on the table. The friendly barmaid took my name and phone number and pointed me to a table, saying come to the bar when I'm ready to order. There are perspex screens at the bar. Surprised (nicely) that a pint of their own beers is still only £2.50 a pint :-) I will be back since they care about craft beer and my safety! Nice craft beer place with 3 of their own beers on tap (although 1 beer wasn't available). No wifi. A beer fridge as well. A pint of their own beer was a reasonable 2.50”

“Only previously visited the Hallcross to watch football and try the real ales on offer but Saturday was the first time for the beer festival. Upon arriving my friend and I were given our wristbands and list of ales then taken to the backroom which was also new to me. Thought the service was faultless and also remained throughout even with the changing of staff in the time we were there both friendly and polite. Didn't get the chance to sample any of the nicely sounding pizzas but will hopefully at some point in the future.”

“Great day on the crisis buster £20 deal. Well worth it. Highly recommended. Didn't have the pizza but it looked a bit poor but you carnt complain on price. Some of spirits was just poured into glass rather than measurements so drastically under and mixed with ok mixers. I did like the cans of steller and bottles of corona.”

“A regular entry in the Good Beer Guide serving both its own ales brewed by a contract brewer and several guests.”
