About Farmhouse at Mackworth
Farmhouse at Mackworth is a pub on Ashbourne Rd in Derby, set in a former 18th-century farmhouse. It has 10 bedrooms for overnight stays, and a separate wedding venue called The Folly hosts weddings and events. The kitchen serves a breakfast menu that includes Shakshuka Breakfast and Eggs Florentine, with Hunters chicken and rib eye steak among the mains. Sunday dinners are served as well. Orders go through an app, and the bar handles any changes. A wait-to-be-seated station at the entrance directs guests to tables in the bar area or the conservatory. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
Sunday dinner and roast draw the most comment, and reviewers split on it. One table found the Sunday dinners lovely and the sirloin perfect, while others describe a roast with fatty meat, tasteless vegetables and cold plates, and one party left much of theirs. Slow mains come up repeatedly, along with finished starter plates left sitting and no staff checking back. Other complaints include a rib eye that arrived well done twice after being ordered medium rare, a changed order that was missed, too little cutlery, kids' goujons likened to supermarket chicken dippers, and small portions for the price. Praise centers on friendly, helpful servers, a conservatory with the doors open, and the garden and views, with one lunch described as quick and delicious. Several reviewers credit individual staff for putting things right. One table had the rib eye taken off the bill, and another received a free round of drinks after a server chased up the late roast.

“Just stopped off for some food on a Sunday evening. Staff were welcoming and sorted us out with a table in the bar. We all order a Sunday roast for over £20 for an adult meal. The meal took forever to come and only after we prompted the staff. The young man who chased it down was excellent. He apologised and got us a free round of drinks. When the roast arrived they were terrible. Fatty meat, undercooked and tasteless vegetables, and cold. Not what you expect for the price. By this time we were too tired to complain again. Overall the serving staff were very good but the food was very poor - as this was the main reason for visiting the Farmhouse we left very disappointed.”

“We arrived on Sunday 16 August and were blown away by the experience from the moment we arrived. Dean, the Manager, and his team were absolutely fantastic, providing outstanding customer service throughout our visit. We enjoyed lunch on Monday afternoon and it was superb. The food, atmosphere, and attention to detail were second to none.”

“The building itself was pretty. The inside restaurant was very nice. The garden and views were just beautiful. The service was excellent, friendly and helpful. The food was absolutely delicious!! We went when they had a 40 % off mains deal which we didn't realize at the time! So that made it even better! However for the overall experience, paying full price was fully justified. Will definitely be returning.”

“Been here a lot over the years but it seems to have gone downhill. The reserved table was very dirty when we got there, had to clean half of it myself as the lad couldn't reach. In the bar area so pointed to where the cutlery is and there wasn't enough, asked for more but none came, had to ask when the meals arrived. Ordered on the app then went to the bar to specify a change to the order which subsequently wasn't done, had to remind the staff when they brought it out incorrectly. Kids food was not good, "crispy chicken goujons" were just the same chicken dippers you get from Aldi, so cheap and poor quality for the price. Kids Mac & cheese clearly just looked microwaved, again, super expensive for such poor quality. Hunters chicken didn't have much bbq sauce or cheese, it was dry, nothing really tasted fresh at all. Would have said something but no staff checked to ask how the meal was. Toilets were grim, family member took daughter to the toilet and said the seat was hanging off. I took my son and they were just filthy (use imagination)... didn't look like it had been regularly checked unless just awful timing on my part. Used to enjoy it here but it seems to have been neglected which is a real shame”
