About Stable Hearth
Stable Hearth is a pizza restaurant at 33-35 Duke St in Darlington, and a winner of England's Best Pizzeria in 2018, 2019, 2022 and 2025. The kitchen makes Neapolitan-style thin crust pizzas in a woodfired oven, and some tables look onto the oven and the pizza-making. The pizza menu is large and includes the Forager, a vegetarian option, along with gluten-free pizzas. Arancini are among the starters, and the Nduja piggy pot is a sharer. The drinks list covers draught beer and wine, and a bottomless brunch is offered. Stable Hearth is walk-in.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often praise the woodfired, authentic thin crust pizzas, with a Neapolitan margherita and the nduja piggy pot sharer named, and one reviewer who knows Neapolitan places around Leeds puts it right up there. Garlic bread is the starter mentioned most, with arancini close behind, and the rosemary and garlic chips also earn praise. Staff are repeatedly called friendly and helpful, and some enjoy watching the pizzas being made from their tables. A bottomless brunch drew praise for drinks never running dry, and the forager was singled out for vegetarians. The main complaint is undercooked dough. One diner found a Pizza Lombardi raw in the middle and swimming in oil, and another found the margherita crust raw and chewy, though the sauce was liked. The same low-rated reviewer describes no menus on arrival, sauces that never came, and a slow bill, while another felt pressed to leave near closing. One reviewer notes plenty of diners boxing up unfinished pizza to take home.

“The food was amazing, some of the best pizzas I've ever had, and I've eaten a lot of pizzas. Our server was fantastic and always ready to help.”

“Ordered a Neapolitan margarita pizza, the atmosphere and the service were great. Nice DIY candles and the servers were polite. You can see the pizzas being made which was excellent. The potato sides that we ordered were also really tasty, the sauce complimented the potato's well. However, to my disappointment- the sauce tasted great, but the dough itself was raw. It made the crust incredibly chewy and hard to enjoy. I would love to try the food again, hopefully with a greater experience with the pizza. Nice place! 4 stars. 🤩⭐️🍕”

“Doesn't win the awards all the time for nothing!!! Lovely place with a great atmosphere and friendly helpful staff. You can see the woodfired pizza oven and watch them cooking the pizzas from some of the tables. Great selection of authentic thin crust pizzas available with various toppings. We had the rosemary and garlic chips too which are delicious. Plenty of people getting pizza boxed up to take home when they couldn't finish it & it is also popular for people collecting takeaway pizzas too.”
