About The Hungry Elephant Bar & Grill
The Hungry Elephant Bar & Grill is a restaurant and bar on Blackberry Ln in Coventry, serving Indian curries and pizzas in a pub setting. Food is ordered at the kitchen on one side of the room, and drinks are ordered at the bar on the other. Curries and pizzas share the menu, so a table can mix both. Chicken biryani is one of the rice dishes, and cheese naan is among the breads. Onion bhajis are on the starter list. Booths with bench seating line the room.

Customer Review Summary
Curries and rice anchor the praise, with chicken curry with pilau rice and chicken biryani singled out, and paneer jalfrezi described as reminiscent of Mumbai. Close behind are the naan, called soft, warm and crisp on the edges, and a mixed grill with a touch of smokiness. Starters such as onion bhajis, samosas and crispy chicken wings arrived within minutes, and pizzas have their own fans. Reviewers describe friendly staff, including a bartender who is always a good laugh, and portions they call big and reasonably priced. The criticism centres on value and atmosphere. One diner found the food average next to other Punjabi grill restaurants, with a small quantity for the money, another thought a small bottle of Coke Zero was very expensive, and a family who came for a football match found almost no crowd and a flat atmosphere. Others mention confusing ordering, with food at one counter and drinks at the other, and bench seats that need re-upholstering. One family of eight left happy and full after starters, pizza, curries and several naans.

“We visited this place with our family to enjoy the England vs. Norway match. We each ordered a beer, expecting a great atmosphere, but it turned out to be one of the most disappointing experiences we’ve had. There was virtually no crowd, and the atmosphere was completely flat. To make matters worse, the owner (the bald gentleman) repeatedly taunted us, saying that we were watching the entire match after buying just a single beer. At no point were we informed of any minimum spend or drink requirement. Things escalated when the owner closed the door and confronted us in a rude, aggressive, and intimidating manner. The way he spoke to us was completely unprofessional and made us feel threatened. What should have been an enjoyable family outing turned into a very unpleasant experience. I would not recommend this place based on the poor customer service and the owner’s unacceptable behaviour.”

“After ages been to a good food place. This was recommended by one of the foodie couple and we came to this beautiful place. We chose Monday to stay away from chaos. This turned out to be a very good decision by us. We ordered Paneer Jalfrezi which was amazing along with Cheese Naan (In fact it was Cheese Pizza only) followed by Veg Noodles which turned out be a fantastic decision, we felt like having it in Mumbai (Similar) only and had ordered one more time. Price wise it was reasonable. Only Coke Zero small glass bottle we paid £3.50 which we found super duper high. Otherwise rest everything was proper. And yes they have ample parking space too.”

“Recommended by friends we decided on a family meal here, three generations were catered for and it was great from start to finnish, greeted at the bar as we entered by a friendly bartender, booking confirmed drinks bought and seated in a booth with plenty of room for the eight if us. The table and seating were clean as you would expect though, the bench seats could do with re-upholstering, a minor thing. Food ordering was a breeze and paid for as you order at the kitchen, once again very pleasant staff, the starters were brought to the table within a few minutes and were excellent, the best onion bhaji's i have had, samosas and crispy chicken wings were well received poppadoms and dips aswell. The mains for the table ranged from pizza to curry's with various Naans everything was well cooked and very tasty, the pilau rice was gorgeous and fragrant. There were no complaints from anyone, and the price was very reasonable. Eight people left very happy and full.”
