About Hipswell Fish Saloon
Hipswell Fish Saloon is a fish and chips takeaway in Coventry at 262 Hipswell Hwy, running since the 80s and now with a second shop on Green Lane. The menu centres on cod and chips, and mixed wraps sit alongside it for anyone who wants something other than fried fish. Halloumi fritters give vegetarian customers a hot option from the same counter. The kitchen also caters for gluten free diners, so mixed groups can order from one place.

Customer Review Summary
Chips are what reviewers raise most, and opinions split on them. Fans call them gorgeous, fresh and delicious, and one large work order of 30 portions arrived on time. Staff are described as kind and friendly, portions as great value, and the shop as clean and tidy. Close behind, vegetarian and gluten free diners single out the halloumi fritters, and others praise the mushy peas and the mixed wraps. The complaints are just as specific. Several report chips that were hard, dry and sharp, as if they had stood for a while, and two of them call this a lapse from usually good chips. Two reviewers say the cod let them down. One received two scraps of battered fish and says they were not told when the cod had run out, and another describes fish that was tough, dry and denser than cod. That same reviewer found the curry sauce watered down, and a late order of mixed wraps arrived not wrapped properly.

“As this is our usual chippy we were disappointed with the standard of the chips. It was evening yet these chips we had tasted awful, were hard and dry, ike they had stood for a while. They are usually nice from here.”

“Great value for money (great portions), the staff are really friendly, and the store is super clean and tidy. Really great first visit - Will be making this my regular chippy!”

“Bought fish and chips here - asked for cod but who knows what it was. It was tough, dry and tasteless. Much more dense than cod. The chips were dry but hey, the mushy peas were fabulous. £32 down the drain. Well, in the bin. Only saving grace is they have seen the last of my hard earned.”

“Everything has just gone down hill badly. This fish and chips shop has been running since the 80s. It was one of the best chippys in Cov. I am really annoyed because I'm leaving this review after giving them multiple chances. Went there for Cod & chips. Each time I've got home only to find 2 scraps of battered fish. Be warned that they don't tell you if they don't have any Cod left and they'll just give you some random fish pieces. Not only that, the curry sauce is so watered down, that it might was well be water. The thing is, Green Lane is just as bad. It's like the bosses have instructed the staff to purposely do these things. Sad to say the least.”
