About Blue Star Bar and restaurant
Blue Star Bar and restaurant is an Ethiopian restaurant in Coventry, at 76 Walsgrave Rd. The kitchen cooks Habesha food, the cuisine shared by Ethiopia and Eritrea, working from traditional recipes. The menu covers three groups of dishes: vegan, vegetarian and non-vegetarian. Plant-based eaters and meat eaters can therefore order from the same kitchen and the same Habesha cooking at one table. The name pairs a bar with the restaurant, so the business presents itself as both.

Customer Review Summary
Diners most often praise the authentic Ethiopian food served on injera, with one describing quality dark teff injera and another noting that more is brought out when needed. The chicken curry gets a recommendation as unlike anything else the reviewer had tasted, the lamb is called fresh and flavourful, and a vegan platter won over a first-time visitor. Ethiopian beer is mentioned, and one reviewer suggests the peanut tea after the meal, calling it incredible. Many reviewers were new to Ethiopian cooking and say the staff and the owner explained dishes and made suggestions they loved. Value for money comes up repeatedly, and the room is described as basic, humble and comfortable. The one caveat is timing: a reviewer who came with a group of five notes the food takes a while to prepare. Another group of friends was given free food by the owner.

“This is a lovely little authentic place in Coventry. The food was all freshly prepared and beautifully presented. The actual restaurant is very basic but comfortable, so dont let that put you off. The people were so welcoming and explained what the dishes were. Fantastic value for money. A really nice local business. We'll definitely be back! (Try the peanut tea after the meal - absolutely incredible!!!)”

“Authentic Ethiopian experience. We were a group of five and enjoyed it a lot. Definitely recommended! It takes some time until the food is prepared. So, you need to wait for a while.”
