About Upper Deck Bar & Restaurant

Upper Deck Bar & Restaurant sits on Mudeford in Christchurch, a British restaurant where the sea view is part of the layout. Couples are seated by a glass balcony and larger groups sit toward the back wall, and the same balcony serves as the perch for the cocktail menu and wine list on quieter evenings. The kitchen leans toward fish and seafood while keeping meat options on the menu, and a cream tea is offered during the day with sandwiches and cakes. Parking in the area is hard to find, so leaving the car behind tends to be the simpler option. A 12.5% service charge is added to the bill, and tables are released by reservation only, with no walk-ins taken.

Customer Review Summary

Diners single out the views as the main draw, with several describing the setting as relaxing and praising the comfy seating that rounds out the experience, though one larger party was disappointed to be seated away from the glass balcony and felt the placement favored couples. The food earns consistent praise, with reviewers highlighting the chicken with vegetables and mash, the fish and seafood focus, and a good wine list, while the cocktail order to start the meal was also singled out. Service runs warm and attentive across visits, with several noting friendly, efficient staff who checked in without being intrusive. One seated group raised a hygiene concern after seeing clean cutlery dropped on the floor and then returned to the table, and the same party flagged a 12.5% service charge added without mention at payment. Parking comes up repeatedly as hard to find, though most feel the location makes up for it.

“Absolutely perfect for our last night. Food was delicious, had the chicken with vegetables and mash potato and it was so tasty. Cocktails were lovely and tunes were perfect. Absolutely recommend”

“I dont normally eat at a restaurants where meals are £30+. Normally just a nice pub and £20 meal for me but in this place the extra money is worth it and I will definetly be coming back”

“Just had a wonderful meal at Upper Deck. Daniel was so attentive throughout, even chilling our glass for an ice cold vodka with our oysters. Highly recommend.”

“We visited for a traditional cream tea on my birthday as a family of six. I’d watched the promotional video beforehand and was really looking forward to the experience, especially the beautiful views. Unfortunately, because we were a larger group, we were seated at the back by the wall. We were told that larger groups are always seated there, while couples are given the tables by the glass balcony. This was really disappointing, as the view is a major reason for visiting. It would seem much fairer to allocate tables on a first-come, first-served basis, regardless of party size. It’s easy to split tables or push them together when needed, so this doesn’t appear to be a difficult adjustment. It also makes good business sense to ensure larger groups have the same opportunity to enjoy the best views, especially as they are likely to have a significantly higher bill than a table of two. The cream tea itself was average. Some of the sandwiches had extremely thin fillings. The cakes were nicely presented, but the sponge cake included was a walnut cake (we think), which my husband (the only one in our party to try it) found quite heavy. A more traditional choice, such as a Victoria sponge, lemon drizzle, or a light vanilla sponge, would be a much better fit for a classic traditional cream tea and would probably appeal to a wider range of tastes. The most concerning part of our visit was seeing a member of staff drop a tray of clean cutlery onto the floor. We expected it to be taken away and replaced, but instead we watched the cutlery being picked up and placed on the prepared clean tables. That left us feeling very uncomfortable about the hygiene standards. We were also disappointed to discover, after we’d left, that a 12.5% service charge had been added to our bill. We only noticed this while driving home because my husband didn’t have his reading glasses when paying. He said the service charge wasn’t mentioned when he settled the bill. Had we realised it had been added automatically, we wouldn’t of left a tip. We believe service charges should be clearly brought to customers’ attention before payment so they can make an informed decision.”

“Had an absolutely wonderful time. Phil (our waiter) was amazing and attentive to what we wanted without being too invasive which was wonderful for catching up with family for a birthday dinner. As mentioned in other reviews parking is hard to find but the amazing view more than makes up for it! Comfy seating and a relaxing atmosphere rounded the whole experience out nicely would definitely recommend!”
