About The Fuzzy Beak

The Fuzzy Beak is a restaurant on Slaughterford Rd in Carrickfergus, with windows that look out over a golf course and lift access to the venue. The menu runs from starters like marinaded olives with olive oil, garlic and chilli, popcorn prawns with chilli and hoisin dip, and a Gracehill black pudding scotch egg, through to mains such as sirloin steak and surf and turf served with peppered sauce, plus a seafood pie and a cheeseboard. Vegan chicken strips with sweet and sour sauce also feature alongside the wider 42-dish menu. Set menus are put together for occasions such as Valentine's Day. Free Wi-Fi is available for anyone settling in, high chairs suit families with young children, and the step-free, wheelchair-accessible entrance serves visitors with mobility needs. Reservations are recommended, and food can take a while to arrive at busier times.

Customer Review Summary

The chicken strips draw repeat mention, with one diner recommending the chicken strips with chips and slaw and another praising the spicy chicken with flat bread and vegan chicken strips, though one found the vegan option too spicy. Close behind, several reviewers single out steak dishes, describing a ribeye cooked as requested, a beautiful steak with peppered sauce, and a surf and turf paired with sirloin cooked to perfection. Desserts and an enjoyable cheeseboard also get praise, alongside golf course and cliff walk views that diners say made waits more pleasant. Service draws mixed reactions: many call staff pleasant, friendly, and efficient, though a few describe it as clumsy but improving. One reviewer, however, describes a lengthy ordeal for a birthday visit, including no acknowledgment on arrival, long waits between courses, a hair found in a starter, being served the wrong main dish, and no itemised bill or apology offered when raised. Another notes chilli chicken that tasted re-cooked from the night before. A separate reviewer reports simply not being seated at all despite a reservation.

“No show. Well , what can I say here. First of all I cannot say anything about the food as I never actually got to try …”

“Sadly not the place it used to be. Went for lunch and was very disappointed with the chilli chicken. Some strips were darker, chewy and tasteless, (seemed to be re-cooked from night before) …”

“Was visiting the area to celebrate a special birthday. From the outset it was a very disappointing experience. Arrived for our reservation on time. Left standing for a time, no acknowledgment despite staff glancing our way. Eventually a waitress came over who told us to sit anywhere. Did as requested. Left for 10 minutes without menus, eventually got menus. Ordered our food and drinks. Starters arrived about half an hour later. No drinks, no cutlery, no condiments. Had to ask twice for drinks. Then found a hair in my starters. Sent it back. I didn’t want a replacement. Waited another 45 minutes for our mains. During that time we weren’t asked once if we wanted a top up of drinks, was just left. When mains arrived, we were served a different dish to what we ordered. We just ate it as wanted to get out of there. Went to pay, wasn’t offered an itemised bill, just shown the pay machine with the amount. I asked for an itemised bill, and was told I could have it when I paid. I said i would like to see it because there was a hair in my food and I wasn’t paying for that. No apology offered, no offer of a complimentary drink or coffees. It is very clear the staff have not been trained, pleasant but no idea of the hospitality industry. Terrible experience and appalling customer service.”

“Decided to go out for dinner the night before Valentines Day to beat the crowds. Restaurant was very quiet. There was Special Valentines menu on all weekend. Good gluten free selection for my wife. We went for Prawn Pill Pill and Chilli Chicken starters followed by Surf and Turf and a Sirloin for mains. Cooked to perfection and plenty of various prawns on the S+T. Will definitely be back.”

“Decent meal here after it has reopened - desserts tasty and enjoyable cheeseboard . Ribeye steak was cooked as requested and the seafood pie went down well! Service was ok, pleasant but a little clumsy - will undoubtedly improve with experience.”
