Quick info
About The Chip Stop
The Chip Stop is a fish and chip restaurant at 145 Belfast Rd in Bangor, open daily from lunchtime into the evening. The menu centres on a cod fish supper with chips, and scampi and onion rings sit alongside as extra items to add to an order. Food is cooked to order, so a short wait is normal. The shop works on a walk-in basis, with no reservations to make. The kitchen sources its ingredients locally where possible.

Customer Review Summary
Fish suppers are the main draw, with reviewers praising fresh cod in spot-on, dry and crispy batter, a good-sized fish and food that arrives piping hot. Chips come close behind, described as fluffy in the middle and crisp outside, and portions are repeatedly called big, with one diner barely able to finish their chips. Onion rings, scampi and the Christmas chip also earn mentions. Several long-time customers say the quality is consistent, and the shop is called spotless, with friendly, efficient staff who get orders out quickly even when it is extremely busy. One reviewer notes that everything is cooked to order, which means a short wait. The criticism is limited but specific. One reviewer who ordered a chicken supper with beans found the chicken overcooked and dry and the chips soggy, with no salt and vinegar despite asking. Another says drinks are forgotten the odd time. A first-time customer who ordered two fish, a large chip and onion rings called them the tastiest in some time.

“Amazing little chippy – been using the Chip Stop for years and it’s never let me down. Easily the best cod supper in town in my opinion. The fish is always fresh, the batter is spot on, and everything comes out piping hot. Portions are generous too, and the quality is really consistent, which is probably why I keep going back. The place is always spotless and the staff are friendly and efficient, even when they’re busy. If you’re passing through Bangor or just fancy a proper fish and chips, you really can’t go wrong here. Highly recommend!”

“Great chippy. Been going for years and food is consistently great. Super efficient service although everything cooked to order so be prepared to wait a short while. Freshly cooked makes it taste so much better and worth the short wait. Staff are very friendly. The place is spotless and kept immaculately. You can tell there is ongoing investment in keeping it up to date. Highly recommend.”

“Dont wast your time or money, Just finished delivering furniture for 12hrs and was looking forward to my 1st cooked meal in 24hrs. Ordered chicken supper with beans absolutely the worst chippy meal I've ever had chicken over cooked and beyond dry and inedible, soggy chips, asked for salt and vinegar didn't get any.”
