About Plough & Fleece
Plough & Fleece is a community-owned pub on High St in Horningsea, near Cambridge, set in a timber-framed building. Meals are served in two indoor areas, the restaurant at the front and the bar at the back, and an open fire or log burner heats both. The menu opens with breaded brie served with hot honey and cranberry. Mains include a steak and ale pie and a dirty double burger, and the kitchen also cooks curries and pub classics like fish and chips, scampi and lasagna. A large garden looks out over fields with horses toward the river Cam, so a drink or a meal comes with a view of open countryside. The pub is open Tuesday to Sunday and closed on Mondays.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the breaded brie with hot honey and cranberry as the starter. Close behind is the steak and ale pie, where diners note plenty of steak and a distinct taste of ale. Others praise the tender beef rendang, the curry, the "dirty double" burger, scampi, mac and cheese, and venison and beef cheeks, with huge portions and crunchy chips mentioned along the way. Service is described as friendly, quick and unhurried, and a cycling group of 14 returned for a second visit. The garden overlooking fields is called lovely, and the pub is described as kids and pet friendly. Criticism is limited but specific. One reviewer found the toilets smelly in the narrow corridor, another felt cold in the restaurant area and wanted pictures on the walls, and a third noted minor teething issues in the first days under new tenants. One table of six cleared their plates and had no room left for dessert.

“We had a wonderful lunch at the Plough & Fleece, the steak was cooked beautifully and the portions were huge, I had potatoes and my son had chips. My husband has the curry which is also really good. Service was good and we were not hurried. All is all a lovely meal with great service.”

“The Plough and Fleece is a beautiful country pub set in the delightful village of Horningsea, near to Cambridge. The timber framed public house and restaurant combines both a formal and informal atmosphere providing a fine dining room at the front and a traditional rustic bar with informal eating tables at the rear. Both bar and restaurant are complimented by a beautiful open fire or log burner that keeps our customers warm in winter. Summer days and warm evenings can be spent in the garden with views over fields to the river Cam, where children and dogs are welcome. If you are looking for a place to come for a few pints, lunch or dinner or an evening meal, the Plough and Fleece will take care of you and provide a very warm welcome.”
