About Angelo's Fish Bar

On Newport Rd in Caldicot, Angelo's Fish Bar serves fish and chips for collection, with cod available as a specific option. An adjacent pizza bar operates alongside the fish counter, adding pizza, cheesecake, and cream cake to the choices on offer. Curry sauce is available as a topping, including an Irish curry sauce option. The counter takes walk-in orders only, and a wait is common at busier times. The entrance is step-free for wheelchair users, and high chairs are set out for families with young children. Both delivery and takeaway let customers eat off site. It opens Tuesday to Saturday and stays closed Mondays and Sundays. The menu keeps to a single core dish, fish and chips, rather than running a wider range.

Customer Review Summary

Fish and chips draw the strongest praise, with reviewers repeatedly calling the cod and chips fresh and well cooked, several naming the version with curry sauce specifically. Close behind, many single out the friendly, chatty staff and the owner's welcome, with more than one describing genuine conversations that made the visit memorable. The pizza bar alongside the fish counter also gets mentioned, along with cheesecake, cream cake and battered sausage as extras while waiting. A recurring caveat exists though: one reviewer describes chips that were undercooked and slimy along with a burger they said tasted steamed rather than grilled, and another reports part of a takeaway order arriving missing, with a choice offered between a twenty minute wait or a refund. Several reviewers mention returning regularly, and one recounts being served just before closing despite incorrect posted hours, with staff cooking the order anyway.

The best fish and chip shop in south Wales, been going there for 30 years and never disappointed, the staff always have a chat and a laugh you could not ask for more

Arrived 2 minutes before closing due to Google posting the incorrect opening times but the wonderful lady behind the bar fired up the cooker for us and took our entire order. Legend. It was our second time getting food here and for good reason. The food is wonderful and with a pizza bar adjacent to the fish counter, you have a world of options. (Well Italy and the UK). The staff are also add a great flavour enhancer - the quality of the staff working there. Both times that we visited, we had a great conversation with the humorous servers. Something about those interactions makes the food taste even better. I WILL be back again, until then, keep up the good work. Diolch yn fawr.

Lovely fish and chips (when it's open). Don't go after last orders at the Wheatsheaf.

Where the data comes from
Name, address, hours, contact details, amenities, ratings and review counts come from the business's publicly available profile data — not from the owner and not from paid submissions.
How it stays current
Every listing is re-checked on a recurring crawl, and anything reported as wrong is corrected at the source rather than patched on the page.
How it is ranked
Placement is never sold. Every business on the page is ordered and compared using the same public signals, so an owner cannot pay to move up.
