About Junction 28
Junction 28 is a modern European restaurant in Newport, set in a converted railway station on Station Approach. A replica dining carriage sits alongside the traditional dining area, so guests can choose between two settings under one roof. Sunday lunch runs to three courses and comes with a Yorkshire pudding. Thursday is steak night, and Louisiana meat platters are also on the menu. The restaurant opens Wednesday to Sunday and closes on Mondays and Tuesdays. A small private room is available for parties, which suits groups marking birthdays or anniversaries. The staff also handle allergies.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the steak and the generous Sunday lunch, praising food that arrives cooked as asked and full of flavour. One compares the steak favourably with a well-known steakhouse chain, and another mentions a Thursday steak night. Close behind are the Louisiana meat platters, which a visitor says matched barbecue eaten in the States, along with the scallops, baked camembert and duo of lamb. Diners also point to the Yorkshire pudding and large desserts. Service draws repeated warmth, with staff described as friendly, attentive and unhurried. Several mention help with allergies, and the owner is called welcoming. Couples describe Valentine's Day with a glass of champagne and a rose, and a wedding party praises the small private room. No recurring complaint appears. One diner dislikes the pistachio filling in a chocolate bomb on the menu, and the staff made a replacement for him.

“We’ve been to Junction 28 a few times now and every time the food has been absolutely spot on. It’s one of those places where you actually look forward to going back because you know you’re going to have a good meal. The chef is fantastic. Everything comes out cooked properly, full of flavour and you can tell the food is made with real care rather than just being rushed out of the kitchen. The steak especially is unreal. I’ve eaten in Miller & Carter plenty of times and I’d genuinely say the steak at Junction 28 is up there with it, if not better. Cooked exactly how you ask for it, really good quality meat and the whole plate is just done properly. The service is another thing that really stands out. Everyone is friendly, attentive and you never feel like you’re being rushed. The owner is brilliant as well — really welcoming, always makes an effort and you can tell he genuinely cares about the restaurant and the people coming through the door. That makes such a difference. It’s not often you find somewhere that gets the food, service and atmosphere all right at the same time, but Junction 28 does. Definitely one of our favourite places to eat in Newport and somewhere I’d happily recommend to anyone.”

“Wedding reception. We arranged for our small and intimate wedding reception to be held at Junction 28. From the time of booking, Leighton was amazing. He made it so easy for us with his reassurance that he make our special day seamless. I had visited Junction 28 in the past but had not been for some time. I knew there was a small private room, which I requested for the party of 7. Leighton was more than happy to accommodate and as there was no other booking for that particular room the evening before, we were able to go to the restaurant to set up the table with our own decorations, but the offer was also there that if the room was booked, Leighton and the amazing team would have been happy to set it up for us. This was truly a weight off our minds. We also took our wedding cake that they stored in their cooler. On arrival, we were greeted by Leighton with a lovely warm welcome, who had the room ready with our requested bottle of bubbly and after being seated, the drinks order was taken. There was no rush put upon us to order, giving us to enjoy the company and atmosphere. Plenty of options when it came to ordering the food, no pre-ordering required. As the courses began to arrive, you could visually see the care and attention that the chef had provided to create the dishes. The portion sizes were plentiful and were absolutely delicious. All guests were raving about their choices with the amazing flavours and excellent presentation. The team were attentive, polite and professional which made our experience at Junction 28 truly perfect. Thank you so much Leighton and the team. We would highly recommend this restaurant to everyone, especially for special occasions.”

“Popped in while passing through Newport and what a quirky local independent gem we found! The restaurant is a converted railway station featuring a traditional dining area AND a replica of a dining carriage. We couldn’t resist the Louisiana meat platters - which were so damn good you’d think they have smokers on site! No word of a lie the meat was on par with BBQ we’ve eaten in the states - hats off to the chef for achieving the awesome texture and flavour without a smoker! Callum (who I assume is the manager) was supper friendly and chose us a great table. If we’re in the area we’ll 100% return!”
