About Shawarma City
Shawarma City is a shawarma restaurant in Newport at 80-81 Commercial Rd, where lamb and chicken shawarma is carved fresh in front of the customer. The shawarma comes as a sandwich or as a large shawarma plate, and the plate arrives with salad and two pieces of bread. The kitchen makes its bread on site every day, with sandwich bread baked in-house and naan cooked in a tandoor. The salad is cut fresh daily as well, so the plate and the sandwich draw on ingredients prepared in the same kitchen. Falafel also appears on the menu.

Customer Review Summary
Diners most often come for the shawarma, with chicken and falafel named most, and the food is usually called good or excellent. The homemade sandwich bread and the breads baked onsite in a tandoor earn praise, one reviewer calls the fataya dough exceptional, and one suggests trying the Amber sour sauce. Friendly staff and owners who clearly know their regulars come up in the positive reviews. The recurring complaint is portion size. One reviewer's large shawarma plate arrived with a baby amount of salad and a small-medium amount of meat, and another who ordered large got what they would expect from a regular. One visit found the lamb doner sold out, and one reviewer found it very hot inside with no fan. Service draws the sharpest criticism. Two reviewers were handed old, cold naan and met with rudeness when they asked for fresh, and one had their money returned instead of a replacement.

“The food is excellent (indeed, the portions are too small ) but the toilet is disgusting 🤮 I never seen it cleaned.”
- Namrah Bashir (Ms Bashir)
“Really disappointing experience. I asked for fresh naan, but was given stale ones. When I politely requested fresh ones for the price I was paying, I was met with rudeness instead of help. They had fresh naan available, yet two were clearly old. I simply asked for them to be replaced, but the response was poor and unprofessional, and my money was returned instead. Very poor customer service overall.”

“Used to go here for good food but they have the worst customer service. They give you old cold bread and refuse to give fresh ones.”
