Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the Sunday roast, with one diner calling the roast potatoes the best in years and another praising the choice of roasts. Fish and chips with crispy batter comes close behind, and several describe well cooked food from a large menu. Groups feature repeatedly: a football team used the games room for darts, pool, shuffleboard and table football, and another party had the upstairs bar opened for them, with staff called welcoming and helpful. The complaints are specific. One reviewer describes bar staff telling their table to leave at closing while letting a neighbouring table stay, then telling them not to stack glasses. Another found a king prawn sandwich on toasted ciabatta with hard, overcooked skinny fries and four prawns in one half, and a family said their roast arrived cold with some menu items unavailable. A reviewer likened drink and food prices to London. One organiser noted the kitchen waited until everyone arrived and sent the burgers out together.

“I’ve hesitated writing this because I’ve worked in hospitality for over a decade and don’t leave bad reviews lightly (actually this is my first one). I love Portishead and its bars, but the service here has been consistently rude and dismissive. We came in late on a Saturday (23/5) and the bar staff inside were fine. No issues at all. But at closing time, a young short shaved black haired staff member came outside, told us we had to finish up because they were closed, fair enough, then immediately said to the table next to us — clearly staff or friends of staff — “but not you, you can carry on, you’re fine”. It made us feel completely unwelcome and singled out. I wanted to provide feedback this night but decided to let it go as hospitality is not an easy line of work. My family were visiting from elsewhere so it was not a good impression. Then last night (14/8), while we were enjoying drinks with the The Voice singer performing, the long time bald staff member was abrupt when we simply asked if there was any music on tomorrow night and he bluntly replied “no” in a standoffish way. When we tried to help him stack our glasses, he told us “don’t do that” and gave us a look of pure disgust. A simple “thanks, but I’ll sort it” would have been enough. The bar staff behind the counter are generally fine, but certain members of the team have a genuinely awful attitude. Overpriced drinks and piss‑poor customer service. This place really needs to sort its staff out.”

“Wow! What a pub- lovely interior with really tasty food. Was very busy but wait time wasn’t too bad, good portion size and lovely staff. Millie in particularly was super, making sure we had everything we need. I will definitely be returning again!!!!”

“Stumbled across this place, and had a roast. Staff are fantastic, very friendly and helpful. Excellent roast. We eat out for Sunday roasts a lot, a real lot... and these are best roast potatoes we've had in years.”

“Holly made our large group feel so welcome. Everything was so well organised and the food was delicious. Being upstairs we thought we would have to keep going down to the bar but they opened the bar up for us and Leah served us all night. We were really impressed with how helpful she was. She had a smile on her face the whole night and couldnt do enough to help us. Although she was new to the role, she multi tasked our various requests with such calm and nothing was too much trouble for her. The whole evening was just perfect and we will definitely be returning. Thanks Holly and Leah for making us feel so welcome and looking after us.”

“First visit and to be honest, quite disappointed. Ordered a King Prawn Sandwich which came with skinny fries. Wasn't expecting the sandwich to be toasted ciabatta and warm. Mentioned this to server who advised all sandwiches are served like this, maybe state this on the menu? Skinny fries were so overcooked and hard, didn't eat them. Sandwich was cut in half with 4 prawns in one half and part of a prawn in the other half, very poor for the price. On a plus, lady who greeted on arrival was very friendly.”
