About China Rose Restaurant
On Market St in Bury, China Rose Restaurant is a Chinese restaurant at number 17 that runs its buffet as a set menu rather than a true buffet. Diners can order several rounds of the same set, but once they start a new set they cannot return to an earlier one, so it helps to choose each set with that in mind. Starters are also ordered in sets, with duck pancakes and prawn toast among them. Soups include scallop and bamboo, and the menu lists special chow mein as a main. A separate vegetarian menu covers meat-free orders.

Customer Review Summary
Diners most often praise the food, with the buffet singled out for a good range and good value, and starters such as chicken wings and duck pancakes mentioned favourably. One group of four describes plenty of delicious mains, and a regular vegetarian diner calls the vegetarian menu the best he has seen. Chicken and sweetcorn and scallop and bamboo soups are called ok. Service divides opinion. Several describe friendly staff who go above and beyond, while another says some staff act rude, and one reviewer recalls a waitress arguing that samosas were never ordered after prawn toast arrived. Slowness recurs, with a table's extra drinks forgotten for a good while. The special chow mein drew a bland verdict, described as mostly chicken with a single prawn. The sharpest complaint concerns the Sunday set menu, where one reviewer found the boiled mains meat rubbery and very salty, and staff never returned with the second servings they asked for, so the couple paid and left.

“Our first time at China rose on a Sunday for the 'all you an eat buffet'. Its not really a buffet but a set menu and you can order multiples of the same but can't retuen to previous set once you have starter a new one. The concept is good BUT once you get to the mains... staff dont really return to ask if you want another serving and when we did ask... they forgot and didn't return by which point we got fed up, paid and left. The starters are lovely. Duck pancakes OK. But the meat in the mains is boiled and the texture isn't very good... like rubber. So I declined another portion as it was weird and well, they forgot to get my husbands. Id say concept and price is good if the meat wasnt boiled. Also the food was EXTREMELY salty!!!”

“I've given 5 stars because the food is very good and the service is excellent. Happy, friendly staff for whom nothing is too much trouble. However...THE CARPET IS DISGUSTING. I felt like I needed to wash the bottoms of my shoes when I left. Seriously guys, please spend some money on a new carpet or wooden floor, because it is seriously minging, which is a real shame because everything else is top drawer.”

“Food was great staff were friendly and we really enjoyed it. However they did admit 4 drunken guys in who were in there late 40s they were loud, larger louts and a bit distracting, not the type of people you want in a family eatery. Better suited to the kebab shop and the end of night. Personally I would have turn them away.”

“Lovely place, staff go above and beyond and the food is out of this world. Highly recommend and we will be back. Thank you”
