About U Kitchen

U Kitchen is a Chinese takeaway at 844 Bury Rd in Bolton, open daily in the evenings only. The salt and pepper "munch box" puts chips, chicken and ribs together in one order, built around the kitchen's salt and pepper dishes. Crispy duck comes with pancakes, which are sold as a separate portion, so the order can be sized to the table. Singapore vermicelli is on the menu with a vegetarian version, and fried noodles and rice are ordered as sides. Orders arrive with prawn crackers and a curry sauce.

Customer Review Summary

Salt and pepper dishes come up most, and reviewers split sharply on them. One diner calls the salt and pepper ribs the best they have had, but others describe salt and pepper chips as soggy oven chips with a few onions on top, and a chicken box that tasted only salty. Crispy beef draws complaints for not being crispy or spicy, and one reviewer says the Korean beef was dry and not like beef. Other letdowns include burnt duck, bland noodles and rice, and a sweet and sour chicken that arrived as a pot of sauce and loose chicken balls. A returning customer found the vegetarian Singapore vermicelli bland twice, and was told by the manager that this is what they make. Praise centres on fast delivery, a friendly driver, good portions and fair prices. One reviewer calls the food lovely but says delivery ran far past the estimate, with every call answered by the claim that it was five minutes away.

“Just ordered a takeaway from here and it’s really poor. £45 worth of food, the duck was burnt to a crisp & inedible. The noodles were tasteless, the rice was tasteless and stodgy, the salt and pepper chips were oven chips with a few onions chucked on top. They charged £1.60 for a portion of 6 pancakes (for the inedible duck), that’s nearly 30p a pancake! Crispy chilli beef wasn’t crispy nor spicy. Soggy sweet and sour beef would be a more accurate description, also a very odd colour. I don’t know why they have decent reviews on the ordering sites because it was a shocking waste of money.”

“Do not order from here - don’t get me wrong the food is lovely, but they estimated 40m delivery time and it arrived 1h40m later. Every time we called they said ‘oh its 5 minutes away’.”

“I Don't recommend at all. I had two ordered, crispy chicken and Korean Beef. It was awful. Beef wasn't beef. It was any meat in the food. It was like dry bread, soaked in water and fried with flour. I'm not happy at all that. I Wasted my money. :/”

“Used to be our favourite, not anymore. I'm very disappointed. Last time we got takeaway, they messed up with vegetarian singapore Vermicelli big style. I only like green pepper, mushrooms, and eggs with singapore style hot Vermicelli. It was just boiled Vermicelli with eggs, green pepper, and mushroom. Today specifically told them I want all the spices but only mushroom, green pepper, and eggs. Sadly, same again. So bland, I had to add salt and a little red chilli flake, was pre-birthday dinner, and was looking forward to eating my favourite food. I called to ask them if they had changed the recipe or the new chef, and they said no but asked my mobile. That manager will call me. She calls me asking me to send picture, which I did, she said we do not put yellow colour too much, I explained even flavour is not there, she said it is our food and that's what we make. I told her I might have a previous picture, which I can send to compare, which I found from a year ago of my birthday dinner. She says yes, the colour does look different. Thanks for your feedback. If you do not trust your customer for £6.90 worth item, not worth spending over £60 from that place. Mistakes can happen only once. If someone asks to correct your mistake and same happen again means our custom is not appreciated. There are many Chinese takeaways here. What is with this takeaways that they can not keep consistency in food and service, why do they have to spoilt it so badly that you go off them completely.”
