About Ship Aground Pembrey

Ship Aground Pembrey is a gastropub in Burry Port on Ashburnham Road, run by a family under new management. Two menus run side by side. The gastropub menu covers pub classics such as a brisket and ale pie served with mash and gravy, and a slow-cooked lamb shank. The Little Mo's menu adds street food and burgers, including gyros, prepared on site. The interior follows a seaside and nautical theme, with ships, lighthouses, anchors, fishing nets and Welsh flags on display. The bar also serves beer alongside the food. Dogs are welcome in the bar.

“Outstanding food, and wonderful staff. You can tell the people running this place genuinely care about what they’re serving, and that you’re enjoying yourself. The brisket and ale pie was perfect. The lamb shank fell off the bone and had clearly been cooked nice and slow. Regular offers of more gravy if you want it. We’ll definitely be back again!”

“We had a fantastic meal at the Ship Aground and will definitely be coming back. The pub has a lovely seaside feel to it, with pictures of ships and lighthouses, anchors, fishing nets and Welsh flags around the bar. I particularly liked the different shades of blue, green and white around the walls. I’m guessing the colours are meant to represent the sea, and if so, I think it works really well. There are fairy lights too, which I always love in a pub. Welsh music was playing alongside some more familiar pop songs, which was a nice touch. There is a map of Llanelli and Burry Port on the wall, which gave us a bit of entertainment while we tried to work out where our house was! The pub is dog friendly in the bar area and they even sell dog treats. We hadn’t booked a table, but the staff were happy to fit us in at the bar. There is also outdoor seating in the beer garden. You can take a picture of the menu from inside and order at the bar, which seemed straightforward. There were quite a few tables reserved for later in the evening, so it was easy to see that it is a popular place. The bar staff were friendly and service was prompt. We were also kept updated about when our food would arrive without having to ask, which I really appreciated. When I was served my meal, I was asked whether I wanted any more gravy before I’d even had to ask. I didn’t need any more, but it’s a small thing that made the service stand out. The menu had so much choice that it was genuinely difficult to decide what to have because so many things sounded good! I ordered the brisket and ale pie and it was absolutely delicious. The first bite made me melt. The mash was creamy and buttery, and the gravy had so much flavour that I didn’t even need to add salt. The garlic bread was also really good. It was made with ciabatta and topped with herbs, and you could really taste the difference compared with the standard garlic bread you often get elsewhere. My partner ordered the gyros from the Little Mo’s menu and really enjoyed it. He was pleasantly surprised to see a Greek option in a pub and he said it was very good. The food tasted homemade and you could tell that some thought had gone into it. It was also reasonably priced for the quality and portions. We were both completely full after our mains, so we skipped dessert this time. We’ll have to save room next time! We were really impressed with the food, the atmosphere and the service. There are already several other things on the menu that we’d like to try, so we’ll definitely be back.”

“What a fantastic pub, popped in for a late lunch today and even though hadn’t booked the owner found us a table. Lovely friendly local pub with exceptionally friendly staff. Food was delivered promptly and was freshly cooked and of the highest quality. I’ve stopped off here on my bike during the Carten many years ago but never had food. Been meaning to come back and so glad we did. They have two menus , the gastopub menu which has lots of pub classics. They also have little Mo’s which was more street food/burgers etc. We ate off the main menu. Very good. Friendly , good value, great food , fab location . What’s not to like. Will definitely be back soon. This is exactly how independent pubs need to be. 10/10!”
